Spaceship Earth

"This is an excellent model for the future, but it won't work. People are too mean. People are too abusive, yeah. People abuse our world. Our world's going down the tubes." So said a tourist to Biosphere 2 sometime in 1991-1993, and she wasn't wrong. It might be time to re-watch 'Biodome'.

This is an absolutely beautiful artistic piece of filmmaking. What an amazing blend of music and imagery. Owen Pallett's score is nearly perfect. I love these kind of looks into culture/counter culture of the recent past. Both the history of the group behind biosphere 2 and how the subsequent experiment unfolded were particularly fascinating. Highly engrossing if you're into this kind of aesthetic and subject matter.

A very cliché cult story, turning somewhat interesting, but the documentary is not up to par with the subject matter. Sure, you don't get bored but it is unfocused and not that well put together. You have the main person for an interview and you only use 3 lines from him? I mean, come on..

For an idea that seems rich in entertainment, the story of Biosphere II is shockingly dull. Sure, you have a slightly kooky architect, but his motives and execution of he plan is far from outlandish. It is all perfectly fine.
