Two journalists lie about filing their reports from within an Ecuadorian warzone and then have to concoct more ridiculous lies to cover it up. A weak farce with a decent premise and very middling execution, there's a few laughs to be had, but it's mostly pretty boring. Gervais' well-honed stand up stage persona is a narcissistic jerk, and his best screen roles have him playing a smarmy asshole. Here he insists on playing the put-upon everyman and it only exposes his limited acting ability.

I have no issues with the plot or the talent, but this is just a boring disorganized mess. Netflix must have picked this up off someone else's bargain bin.

Ricky...start doing something good again, it's been too long. No use of cinematography to aid the comedy or story, just generic boring film making that reflects the worst of modern comedy films. Ricky pulled out his usual bag of digs about his appearance which really is getting boring now. Very poor acting, dry script writing.

Special Correspondents has a decent premise but its attempts at satire are too on the nose, almost as if it were trying too hard. The result is a film that is not unfunny, but not satisfying enough to be memorable. Gervais delivers his standard dose of self-deprecation. Farmiga and Bana are entertaining enough, but it's Ferrera who is consistently funny.

I think that if Eric Bana were an animal, he would be some sort of marsupial. There's just something about his face.

Lame. It had an interesting/funny premise, but this is just a sloppy film.

Shitty, to put it plainly - the rate of comedy that's worth even a little chuckle is a slow trickle, despite the overall setup being sound.

Probably Gervais's most consistent, focused foray in filmmaking, "Special Correspondents" has a fun premise, good acting and lots of big laughs. It's very pleasurable throughout and, even if - or because - it doesn't aim too high, it doesn't have one boring or needless scene. It flows marvelously and gets the job done.

Ricky Gervais wrote and directed this for Netflix and unfortunately it's mostly a miss. Any small handful of jokes that worked are filled with lots of misses and the story gets weaker as it progresses. I'm also starting to think Gervais is only good at being himself. Eric Bana and Vera Farmiga fare better, but it still can't save the weak writing which has big plot holes. I was kind of hoping this was going to be a comeback for Gervais, but sadly this is one of his very worst projects.

So Netflix went there and replicated the Do-Over plo with Gervais? Come on. But Vera Farmiga shines -- she always does -- singing the hilarious A Dollar for a Hero.

Watched it for Ricky, this is just the US version of French movie "Envoyés très spéciaux (2009)"

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I can watch anything written, directed or starring Ricky Gervais and always walk away somewhat happy.

I sat through most of SC blaming the script and direction for giving this impressive cast so little to work with, only to discover during the credits that Gervais was responsible for both. He's yet to translate his skills to the big screen successfully, and at this rate he never will: this effort a bland, formulaic 'comedy' with very few laughs, lazy tacked-on romance, and not an original idea in sight. There's plenty to get out of this premise too, if only it were in better hands.

Slow start...
Pretty good premise...
Decent film...
Probably one of the best Netflix originals I've seen.
