Isabelle Huppert is a master at making the viewer believe she's a living, breathing human, and it's a talent few actors have. Even so, this is a throwaway effort for everyone involved. The movie is only so so, with a frivolous ending and cursory observations on the parallels between prostitution and psychoanalysis that are superficial and unexplored.

Nobody can drink a glass of whiskey as well as Huppert. Although a bit PC in its outlook and way too happy an ending for a movie from the land of the Dardennes, the idea that prostitutes and psychoanalysts are bound by role playing and role interpretation is an interesting one.

Huppert manages to carry this rather bland film, with a host of unlikable psychiatrists weighing the picture down.

"Despite its flaws, Jeanne Labrune's Special Treatment is surprisingly atmospheric at times." - Michael Nordine
