I'm burnt out on superheroes, but this series does everything to bring me back to the genre. It does things live action can't. It feels like a comic book. The animation is beyond astounding and the music is perfect. I could complain about the multiverse or too many references and easter eggs, but when a movie feels this magical and has so much soul to it, I kinda let that slide. It's overwhelming in a good way, and slows down when it needs to. A benchmark in animation and filmmaking in general.

An excellent follow-up, even if it does feel like HALF of one story. I’m not sure the recap was needed, but it’s otherwise pretty flawless if you ask me. The family stuff was fine and the Spidey action and lore was all handled with so much love. These are being made by people who clearly understand Spider-Man, laughs and heart and HARD choices an all. Animation is some of the best I’ve ever seen, but it’s a genuinely fantastic character piece too. March(?) can’t come soon enough.

Almost embarrassingly flawless. My criticisms are so limp that they're barely worth uttering, but I'll try. If possible, it may be TOO visual - there's SO much going on and SO much changing from scene to scene, stunning as the visuals may be, it may lose or be a struggle for some viewers. Everything the first was, the second is that much more. I had forgotten that this was a Part One; perhaps my greatest compliment here is that I gladly would have watched Part Two immediately after this ended.

Guys, you didn't have to go this hard but thanks! Visuals are somehow stepped up from the last movie and while it has a darker, more serious tone, it earns it by putting in the graft with the characters. I was also dubious about yet another trilogy but they've got my interest now to say the least. One of the best superhero movies out there and absolutely the best comic book movie.

I need to revisit the first one but this feels like a substantial jump forward. It still does what the first did well (the animation, having a surprising amount of heart), and does it better, making it even more kinetic and exciting. But I thought the plot was really interesting, and some of the action was just awe-inspiring. And the soundtrack was superb. I really have no complaints here and have no reason to believe that the next one won't be bonkers.

Darker and more philosophical than the first film, Across the Spider-Verse really elevates itself above every film it compares to in every way. The art style gets more developed and varied, and the world evolves and allows for some very frank discussions about determinism and free will. I thoroughly enjoyed this and think it's one of the better sequels of recent time: I didn't want it to end despite being the longest animated feature ever released by a major studio. Well done all involved.

This was incredible. That it's the best superhero movie of all time and one of the most impressive animated films ever seems fairly obvious but I'm still struggling to comprehend and trying to adequately express how audicious, exuberant and perfect it is! The lightning-fast pacing and almost peerless action alone make it probably the most entertaining and visceral cinema-going experience since "Fury Road" but it also has wit, heart and characters worth caring about. And that sweet, sweet score!

Somehow better than the original, which is an exploit in itself. The animation is still unique and creative, the script is great and emotional, the story doesn't drag at all, the characters are all interesting in their own way, and the fanservice is on point, although a bit too much at times. Incredible work of animated art.

Manages to be both more ambitious and visually stunning than its prequel, yet somehow never stumbles over anything it aims to achieve. Not only is it a fantastic parlay on the general mythos of Spider-Man itself but it's also a phenomenal study on the characterization of Miles and Gwen which both desperately needed. I am a bit miffed on some of the characterization (particularly Ben Reily) and thought the concept of "canon" was sort of lame meta commentary, but this is damn phenomenal.

When everybody said they thought Into the Spider-verse was their favorite Spider-man movie (and some even favorite SUPERHERO movie!) I didn't really understand it. It was a good movie, with great animation, but I didn't think it was GREAT exactly. If people are going to say that about this movie... NOW I get it. This movie was incredible. It blew me away. I was on the edge of my seat almost the entire time, and can't wait for the next one!

A perfect blend of style and subject, painstaking detail in animation and universally relatable themes make this one of the best movies in the last couple of decades. Since Into the Spiderverse is about Miles accepting himself, Across the Spiderverse is about his friends and family accepting him, I shall assume Beyond the Spiderverse is about the multiverse accepting Miles. Add to that the reveal in the climax and we got one hell of a movie coming up.

Every frame bursts (or drips-see the beautiful final scene between Gwen and Dad) with emotion and kinetic energy (see the brilliant opening), literally colouring in an already engaging central character arc (see the compellingly meta canon critique: "I'ma do my own thing") and comic-crossing story (a little hard to follow-his arc is not the only one, see). Fast-paced and fun but does well to slow down at a few key points (see Gwen and Miles on the tower; the suspense of the return "home").

The best superhero film since the first Spider-Verse, which was in-turn the best superhero film since The Incredibles. More than delivers on spectacle (I think this is the most visually audacious animated film ever put out by a major American studio), but backs it up with involving character work that makes it all matter. I thought I was sick of multiverse movies, and I knew I was tired of superheroes, but this truly reinvigorates those well-worn subgenres.

I’m fully shook. The visuals are so sublime and vibrant they make the first look like your typical Fox animated sitcom - in greyscale - while the humour lands as well as before and the story is a layered and intelligent examination and critique of the concept of ‘canon’ and shared belief on what has to define a character, with fantastic villains. A plethora of excellent new characters. A little too much of a “part one”, but whatever! Lord/Miller supremacy! Where were Mulaney and Cage tho!!!!

Spider-Man fans are putting on weight they're eating so well these days. A Spider-Verse sequel was always going to be a visual splendor, but the expectation might've been that it couldn't attain that revolutionary peak its predecessor wowed us with. Those expectations have been obliterated. This is a masterpiece. A celebration of art, music, culture, people. It might actually be flawless -- the revolution continues in real time. My face hurts from smiling.

This movie is a daring sequel, vaulting past the heights of its predecessor with an ambitious mix of parallel universes and an array of Spider-folk. It feels more like a thrilling rollercoaster ride with its dizzying, ever-shifting animation style that may leave you catching your breath but undoubtedly thrilled. Emotionally, it's a deep dive into the struggles of Gwen, Miles, and Peter while balancing the thrill of a multiverse crisis.

The Spiderverse series remains effortlessly top tier, both sprawling, playful, funny, deep, and wildly imaginative. That said, the superhero genre has served up quite some multiverses since 2018, and there is a lot of glitching, many scenes of emotional relations, and I didn't quite feel that the story carried the same oomph as the first one. This is a harsh review for a top three superhero movie.

The plot and character melt together and are propelled by the sci-fi element in a great way. (I think I'm a fan of Lord and Miller.) The callbacks and the minor retcon of the last movie feel natural and like they belong in the story. And those cameos!

Possibly the one superhero film that would get me to the cinema these days, this had gorgeous animation (the Gwen world felt beautifully impressionistic), it was an extremely fun and funny ride and also gave its characters room to breathe and be. I got annoyed at some ending stuff and I have to see the next one to know what to make of the status quo/ policing / authority theme, because that point felt unfinished. But oh my god, I laughed so much.

This is the most "comic book" a film has ever been, surely. Obviously its animation is incredible, capturing both style and substance, but also the film is both overcomplicated and simply silly in a very comic-booky way. I didn't love it, but I can see that it's objectively a genre masterclass.

I loved the 1st film: it was so unpredictable & visually different. But this only offers “more” in terms of visuals & lame jokes. Story-wise, there's nothing truly significant at stake until late in the film & nothing unpredictable until the end when Miles makes a choice that the writers will have to make okay. So we're left w/ a Michael Bay-like blur of splash-page imagery prioritized over action logistics you can follow & Woke politics (post-crime surge BLM endorsement; pregnant & fat heroes)

Wow, I cannot describe the amount of work that went into animating this film, from the big scenes to the small little Easter eggs, just the look alone deserves a second watch. And the plot? Fantastic, it picks up right where into the spider verse ended and keeps it running through a multitude of other fascinating, perplexing universes of spiderman. The movie has a little bit of everything, romance, comedy, action, adventure, and of course spidermen.

I was a bit wary about the length of the movie, as I expected it to be very action-packed. That is probably my only criticism after seeing the movie too. The length didn't disturb me much, but there were a couple of points when I felt it was dragging. Apart from that it's an excellent movie, and not only because of the (admittedly amazing) visuals and the pretty great soundtrack. It's also very good, even quite touching, as a movie. Definitely the best Marvel-thing since Infinity War.

Across the Spider-Verse is tightly-written, purposeful in direction, well-paced & incredibly engaging despite its runtime. It builds upon everything established in the 1st film, prioritising character development, while introducing the concept of "canon" as a thematic exploration of predetermination & still has plenty of fun action. The animation is great, with each universe having its own feel. I went in not knowing how it was going to end, and I'm glad I did. Only flaw is the repeated cameos.

"The Multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little." Except there are a ton of movies about it. This one isn't as good as Everything Everywhere All at Once, but it's better than No Way Home. It's energetic in everything: the jokes, fights, and especially the soundtrack. But it could've been elevated with some social thought--although I can see fanboys getting upset at the Trans youth & BLM shoutouts. Recommended. The first movie was one of my favorites, so this movie had a lot to live up to, and it didn't disappoint. The visuals and soundtrack make for a great experience. The only thing that might hold it back a bit is sometimes feeling a little redundant in Miles' story with his conversations with his parents, and a much more convoluted plot that really is just setting up the finale, rather than the more straight-forward and self-contained story of the first. Regardless, excellent overall.

Having 5 kids 10-15yo talking loudly, throwing popcorn and (empty) cups of soda around etc did not provide the best environment. After several warnings they were eventually thrown out halfway through the film. But even without these disturbances, the film is a disappointment and certainly not as good as its' predecessor. The main idea here seems to be to cash in: In spite of this film being too long, they still want us to return in order to see the end of the story in part 2.@Filmstaden Uppsala.

It's a mash of styles that's impressive and spectacular, but very little of it has any appeal to me personally. Only the Sex Pistols art got me hyped. Shows you how important nostalgia and personal comfort food plays into this. All memes plots. So not even the teen angst hits a nerve. It's ok. I grew up on Spider-Man comic books so the idea that that character would accept people dying for the 'greater good' is hard to accept. Across the Spider-Verse is extremely visually rich and stylish. The voice cast is amazing. Spot is such a fun addition to the proceedings. For the first hour and a half or so this was shaping up to be one of the best superhero movies ever made. Then the multiverse stuff kicks in, and in a lot of ways this reverts back to being your typical superhero fare. I still enjoyed this a lot, but it really just makes me want to see a studio go full creative mode, and really push the limits of the genre.

I preferred it over the previous instalment. I liked the more quiet, "painted" looking scenes with some gorgeous background colors, and generally preferred the animation. While it did have some slower scenes like that with time to get to know the characters, it still often felt hectic and hard to get invested in the story beyond the interpersonal parts which were a sadly short part of the runtime. An explosion of creative ideas, riffing on Spidey lore, metaphysical (and multiversical) ideas and concepts that has moments of fascinating and thrilling daring, but just as many that are so much (to paraphrase) everything, everywhere and all at once to become tiring and sometimes tiresome, with the lack of discipline meaning the film eventually wears out its welcome. Really comes to life in the mid-section focusing on Spidey lore, the most satisfying (and thought provoking) sequence.

This seems like a step up from the already impressive animation style of the first installment. Unusually human and relatable for a super hero film (like the first installment). A bit too long with, for me, a bit too much action, though that's probably an unusual complaint. Despite attempts to build up the "spot" villain, I didn't find him convincing. This wasn't disastrous, since he isn't the main source of conflict, but it did detract from the experience a little.

This animated film follows in the same footsteps as its predecessor with eye-popping visuals and an amazing sound design. A shiny and even more innovative sequel to a already wonderful movie. Still, I have some complaints about the first part of the movie. It was shiny... but somehow not interesting enough.

While it may have been a step too far to expect this sequel to hit the dizzying heights of 2018's Into the Spiderverse (the best ever Spidey film released), ATS does an admirable job with sky-high expectations. Miles again must wrestle with the burden of wielding webshooters, with the movie asking: "what does it mean to be a Spidey?" The writers excellently elevate minor villain, The Spot into a menace. The "verse" aspect again shines, with Spider-Punk being this outing's clear standout. PSI: 92

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is a grand and visually impressive spectacle, overflowing with characters and narrative ambition. However, its richly woven tapestry of alternate realities and Spider-People proves to be both its greatest strength and its ultimate weakness. It's a wild, exhilarating ride through the Spider-Verse, but one that occasionally leaves the viewer feeling more tangled than thrilled.

Stunning visuals but does anyone else get mentally tired watching scene after scene of superheroes zooming around at 100 mph with an overload of special effects? And when they do slow down, it's to have a really cheesy heavy-handed heart-to-heart talk. It gets to a point where every scene becomes a cliche. Also thought the ending in Infinity War was more impactful while also making you look forward to the next part whereas this one feels like a cliff-hanger in the middle of a scene.

This is how you improve upon one of the best animated movies in years. It's incredible how the movie manages to actually up the ante on just about anything the first film did and still pull it off.

This manages to be bigger and better than the first movie. The worst thing about the whole movie is the cliffhanger ending and wanting to watch the rest right away. It's a movie about belonging, story, figuring out what is right and wrong, and even some free will vs canon events in the mix as well. Great animation, story, and it does a great job of making each world feel so very unique.

Absolutely amazing trailer I paid money to see for a movie that's coming out a year from now. At least Mission: Impossible has the decency to include Part One in the film's title.

The animation is spectacular, with a level of detail that shows off type of action that just isn't possible in a live action movie without EXTENSIVE special effects piled on. Just a shame that it has a tremendous cliffhanger in the end
