Fun thriller with good performances from McAvoy and Taylor-Joy. Some elements of the film are a bit forced, trying to cram in moments that supposedly add depth to the characters but really come off as solely for audience shock value. On the whole though it fits together pretty well and much better than M Night's recent output.

Split, taken as a psycho killer / locked-in thriller works well despite the occasionally slow pacing. This is no doubt helped by James McAvoy's fine performance(s) and that of Anya Taylor-Joy. Looking forward to what happens next...

it could be a great movie (for there's a GREAT character in an interesting story), but the focus on certain narrative aspects make it not so great; there's a certain overdramatization when trying to directly talk about the multiple personalities (overdramatization when the movie tries to tackle real life issues), the action scenes are well directed, but tiring; the "Dr. Fletcher" scenes are generally overly dramatic (beyond what'd be reasonable); the flash backs work fine; McAvoy is brilliant

Dica: quem não viu Unbreakable, assista antes. Além de ser um deleite para psicólogos e outsiders em geral (simbolismo acachapante), é mais uma bola dentro do Shyamalan no universo dos quadrinhos.

M. Night's best movie since Unbreakble (easily). The Shyamalan cameo scene and the exposition by way of the therapist scenes are the only negative spots (and they really didn't take me out of it at all, to be honest), but McAvoy does some of his best work here. I really enjoyed it.

Abuse and trauma are used as a premise for some supernatural stuff, which is fine, but deals with those topics in a kind of one dimensional, stigmatizing way, which is its biggest drawback. Otherwise, exciting and interesting.

Strong performances by McCoy and Taylor-Joy, but the plot is meandering and filled with clichés, before veering off into the ridiculous by the end. Also features child abuse flashbacks and teenage girls being forced to strip to their underwear for no apparent reason.

I think I would have liked this movie a lot more if it had an R-rating and could have really been the horror movie it seemed to want to be. James McAvoy's performance is the highlight and it delivers, though it is played broadly and the marketing had me expecting to see more personalities on display than the film delivers. Anya Taylor-Joy is a pleasant surprise - her performance really shines and she's nice to look at too. The ending of this movie gets a bit odd, but it's fun.

M. Night might know what he's doing again. Split was incredibly creepy and well-made. I have no regrets about being the lone person in the theater fist-pumping the ending call-back to Unbreakable. If McAvoy doesn't get a nod next Oscars season due to this being genre work, there is no justice in the universe.

I must admit this is the first Shyamalan film I bothered to watch since "The Sixth Sense", so I can't comment on whatever other 'personalities' he may have displayed in between, but "Split" is exactly how I remembered him - wildly, unashamedly cheesy. There are myriads of low-budget horror films that are this tacky, but Shyamalan's are better financed for some reason.

What the f was that beast? Is it solution for Kevin to overcome his trauma? If yes, why not something else? What was the thing from which the girls had to fear before the beast? Why is that black girl so stupid? Why should Shyamalan eroticize the protagonist's body? Either I'm too stupid to understand it or it is really baaad.

Split makes for a fun little popcorn flick, that also has some actual depth to it as well. McAvoy's performance is to be heralded and Taylor-Joy more than keeps up with him, even if the other supporting actors are a bit lackluster. And Shyamalan is on point here too, surprisingly. Between this and The Visit we might be seeing a return to form for his writing, hopefully catching up to his exceedingly good knack for visuals.

Early front-runner for worst film of the year. Offered ZERO thrills (I found my mind wandering during the therapist info dumps), and paled mightily in comparison to similar recent fare like "10 Cloverfield Lane" and "Don't Breathe". Still, I'm likely to see the sequel due to...well, I for one won't spoil it for you; but this one is definitely skippable.

Shyamalan provides an interesting look on the concept of trauma and it's impact on the human mind. James McAvoy's performance at times is worth the price of admission. The audience is ask to slightly suspend their disbelief on some of the science behind the controversial dissociative identity disorder, and is rewarded greatly in the films finale and last second reveal that re-contextualizes the movie.

I haven't seen a Shyamalan movie since The Village, but this is a true return to form. Where has this man been all this time? Surely Shyamalan is one of the biggest mysteries of modern cinema. A genius who constantly trips over his own feet. This movie is wonderful, the pacing is fantastic, McAvoy is a genius, the girls are great. The way it ends is also very satisfying, though not sure if everyone will love it. Please dear god let Shyamalan continue in this vein forever.

Despite Split's overly recycled concept of multiple personalities, its execution is near perfect. The movie is thrilling, suspenseful, and disturbing. A few uninteresting writing choices towards the end cause it to lose steam and become predictable, but overall the experience is maniacally riveting.
