Sam Hurley, "Nation's No. 1 killer" with a cold contempt for "heroes," escapes prison with two companions and takes a mixed bag of hostages to Nevada ghost town Lost Hope City. Relationships shift and tension builds as Hurley keeps the others in suspense as to whether he will let them escape before bomb time. (imdb)

Like most hostage movies, this doesn't make too much sense, or maybe I just don't understand how hostage situations are supposed to work. Otherwise, besides an overlong introduction, it is pretty fun hostage movie with some varying personalities a bit of drama and some good moments of tension. I just wish it didn't veer so close to absurdity so often.

It's never really tense or anything and it seems like they just tossed in the nuclear bomb thing because at the time that would make any movie seem TENSE. But the characters are fun

This is one of those films where the bad guys have the good guys in an isolated location (think Key Largo or Suddenly), but in this one there's a literal bomb ticking (of the nuclear variety, as a nuclear test is to be administered at their location the next morning.) It unfortunately doesn't quite meet the premise, but it's fun and the McNally villain character's steadfast loyalty to his criminal partner gives him some depth. The ending is impressive.
