Stakeout

Middling buddy cop film was a hit in its day but has been rightly forgotten. It isn't particularly funny and the action is entirely routine. The actors try their best with substandard material, and Dreyfuss is decent as a conflicted cop caught between duty and desire. No doubt he is a cool charismatic guy, but coupling him up with a 29 year old Madeleine Stowe is a bit much, and their relationship 'evolves' in a completely predictable way. Badham's direction is merely competent, nothing more.

Excellent acting by Dreyfuss particularly. This is a good cop film.

From a time when cop movies were hot and young men with moustaches were too .. Reasonably engaging film with solid performances and some good humour. Not one of the best things either lead actor has done, but far from the worst.

This movie's script is mostly predictable. The cast however works well together and they seem to be having fun with the script. There are some fun scenes and some interesting ones. Overall I would recommend this film.

Whoever assembled this film's soundtrack may be history's greatest monster.

Uneven 80's action/comedy where the comedy works rather well, but the run-of-the-mill action bits interrupt the flow and cut away from the story. The action is also surprisingly violent and there are some quite un-PC scenes, but that's part of the 80's charm for you. Dreyfuss is cool, Estevez is surprisingly low-key and Stowe looks beautiful. Rest of the cast contains young Forest Whitaker and surprisingly menacing Aidan Quinn. With some fine-tuning this might have been an 80's classic.

A fairly lighthearted buddy-cop movie that actually has some decent laughs that mainly come from Dreyfuss. Madeline Stowe's first major role and it is clear why she became "the" woman of the early 90s. It is crazy to think there was a time where mustached men were god's gift of sexiness.
