I can understand the thinking of the guy who thought that if they put Christopher Walken and Al Pachino in leading roles, they'd get a veritable bowl of snap-crackle-pop dialogue. Unfortunately instead of rice krispies and 2% milk, we get a snoopy coffee mug filled with clamato poured over some day-old cheetos.

(Viewed in 2013): Presumably Fisher cast Pacino, Walken and Arkin to be in his film just to say he did. Why they accepted is anyone's guess because the script is lousy and there are no meaty lines for these heavyweights to really sink their teeth into. With the right material this could have been like a geezer Goodfellas, but in Fisher's hands it's a leaden bore. He relies too much on the audience's good will towards these actors and fails to capitalize on their mythic resonance.

Amongst the current trend of 'A-list oldster reunions' this one is definitely the stand-out. The leads impress throughout and the mellow pace and direction fit the story and (well-written) characters perfectly. Crucially, this piece succeeds in reflecting the audience's genuine feeling of nostalgia and sadness as we start to realise these legendary actors won't be around forever either. The final scene felt like something tacked on after a test screening, so I'll just choose to ignore it.

Slow movie barely supported by the great cast they put together. A group of aging gangsters get together and get in some trouble. Some fun moments and some well written and scripted sequences but overall it's a little thin to outright recommend.

Can't decide if it wants to be a cool gangster film, an anti-ageism old people can be badass movie, or a straight up comedy so the tone and quality of the scenes meander around. If it had stuck with one thing it could have been good because the concept was interesting enough.

Basically a mix of The Expendables and Bad Boys. A few great actors in a poorly written and paced movie with stupid humor throughout. Some classic scenes and Walken is always uncanny, yet the movie doesnt hold up.

Sometimes you have to eat a lot of cereal before you get to the prize in the box, and I'm pleased to say that while this is true of Stand Up Guys, the prize is quite worth the effort. Walken and Pacino are unexpectedly tender, playing old, wistful, and battleworn. They've a few regrets, but who doesn't at that age? And there is little in the way of apology from either character: they made their beds, and they're going to lie in them, perhaps sooner than one of them would like.

Huge amounts of potential, and it just failed to deliver in big ways.

Very well done story about three aging criminals on the day one of them is released from prison. Funny, touching and an entertaining ride--you could even call it an action movie. Pacino, doing his best performance in years, pays homage with a scene somewhat reminiscent of his blind man's tango in Scent of a Woman. And, if you don't think about it too hard, it could also be Vanessa Ferlito getting revenge for what happened to her character in Death Proof. Appropriate epitaph.

The story is simple, the chemistry is not quite there and some of the dialogue is stiff, but still I enjoyed it somewhat.

A pretty funny and touching movie about a group of con men who spend one last night together before the group is over for good since Christopher Walken is hired to kill his friend Al Pacino. I thought the chemistry between the actors was great, just like in Little Miss Sunshine Arkin is gone too soon. Fresh faced Addison Timlin was also wonderful in this. I had a lot of laughs and thought the movie wrapped up nicely. The scenes with Lucy Punch were also really really funny.

Al Pacino is old & needs help getting an erection, fantastic, what else? They have a friend..in a retirement home. Bam, give me another. One of them dies..from old age! We got us a movie boys! Walken had the chance to end this film on more than one occasion but never pulls the trigger. The dialogue in the first 3/4's lacks any emotional continuity, aims low & hits its mark. Also, they eat 3 main meals in about 4 hours.

It's basically a series of "Old Wiseguy" seriocomic vignettes. Some are amusing, a lot are flat-out silly, some are unexpectedly touching (everything involving Walken and Addison Timlin is pretty spot-on), some are actually kinda badass. Your mileage with this movie will vary, as mine did--just be aware that Pacino's kinda in hambone mode here, although Walken's performance is sincere and well-modulated.

makes you rethink life in the final moments atleast. The scene where they try new clothes, with no reveal of the fact that they are going to kill the one who is asking Doc to kill Val, made me think about the anguish one may feel when he knows he is minutes away from dying and he is getting to try a new suit for the last time. (my words are nowhere close in conveying this anguish). This is similar to the thoughts that went through my mind during the Interstellar launch.

Stand Up Guys is a weird film. By and large, the film is a slow, dull affair, albeit with snippets of promise throughout. The climax manages to deliver on said snippets, leaving a satisfying end to an unsatisfying film. Walken's facial expressions are great, but all the performances are uneven; something I feel has more to do with Stevens lacklustre direction.

It would have been better if it had been about aging comedians. At least Bill Burr was in it.

Firstly-this is not a comedy but a drama about old guys enjoying their last night of fun. Expect a comedy and be disappointed. There are funny moments ("Man, this is like future!") but sadness dominates.Anyway. Dialogues and action are really slow and I'm not quite sure if it's because of the script or their old age.Secondly,I never though I would see Al Pacino playing such a disgraceful character... I liked Alex and her significance to the ending. The message rocks, but the movie could be shorter.

There's pretty much no reason to specify that you should really only watch this if you are a fan of the main cast as the story is raher flawed and at times downright stupid. It has it's moments and at times its fun. Walken is great as always, Pacino is so-so as he seems to have been forever by now. Passable, but nothing amazing.

Surprisingly poignant film featuring Christopher Walken and Al Pacino in one of his better post-Insider roles. Plenty of funny moments and the cast seemed like they enjoyed making this. I kind of wish we saw more of Mark Margolis' character, though, as what we saw him was typically great, but the character felt as if he was written into the script solely to move the story forward.

This film was pretty good, but it could have been miles better. I think when people see the likes of Walken and Pacino they expect a classic. Not bad for a couple of aging legends though.

Not bad. The main cast will keep you interested, even if the main story and events don't. Walken is, of course, a lot of fun.

I am a big fan of Walken, but after Seven Psychopaths, and now this, he is going downhill very fast. His signature way of acting is getting a bit stale to be honest. There is no chemistry between Walken and Pacino. I don't even want to mention Pacino, all his latest flicks are turds. Can't this guy just stay retired and enjoy his pre-2000 fame?

I've never seen such immortalized actors agree to such an amateur, fetishistic, adolescent piece of nothing in my entire life. I grow tired of the deficit of self-respect and substance in what they here phone in during a 95-minute running time which seems like an endless torture zone of small-time macho triviality.

One would think that an old guy buddy movie featuring these three talents would be entertaining, but it was not to be in this flick. It's dry and boring with few redeeming elements. The story drags (and there isn't much of it to begin with), their joyride exploits really aren't all that funny or entertaining, and the spark of intriguing crime drama never becomes a flame. Any dialogue that might've made up for the lack of plot excitement is unmemorable and contrived. A disappointment.

The Blues Brothers opening, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid ending. Another wasted Pacino movie since 20 years. and reminds me of Tough Guys.
