With an often forced sense of humour and an awkward feel to many aspects of the production, Stardust provides a marginally entertaining but inevitably average viewing beyond the implied sentimentality and overused special effects. Although some of the action (undead swordfight) is quite good with a few reasonable cameos thrown in for good measure, it feels ravaged by plotholes and an occasionally flawed script. By the contrived, dry ending I was only left with an overall feeling of indifference.

The plot of this story is that a boy trying to win the heart of a girl that does not return his affection is told that if he goes to retrieve a falling star they've just seen, she'll be his bride. He says, "I'll go get it." I heard about this and devoured the book (really excellent offering from Neil Gaiman) but there was something about that premise that still felt too romantic. In the film version the girl is played by Sienna Miller. That is correct, son. Go get that star.

Pushy fantasy film that clumsily lobs chunks of exposition between attempts to be ever so delightful. To be fair there are a some fun moments, but De Niro is definitely not amongst them. He is painful here. This film just tries too hard, its plot contrivances and unnecessary effects tending towards the annoying.

Although there are a handful of small moments that suffer from the predictability & contrivances that come w/ being a fairy tale, & the humor doesn't always hit the mark, the film is undeniably clever. A wonderfully intricate story w/ more imagination& fun than the majority of fantasy flix out there put together. It's lack of success can only be attributed to the general apathy towards fantasy at the box office & a marketing campaign perhaps not targeted enough toward younger viewers.

The book was a warm little modern fairy tale update like most of Gaiman literature are. Effects and production design leaves the movie unsincere and dry with only a few moments worthwhile. And it gets awfully mediocre past the De Niro sequence, towards the end.

Overall a fun fantasy pic... the sort that makes a great rental but a mediocre movie. The film has difficulty immersing the viewer into its fantasy realm, and the special effects are needlessly grandiose, but halfway through the gears finally mesh for an ultimately fun ride.

I just can't help liking the film. The acting is good and the plot is decent but it conveys a nice feel-good feeling you just can't resist. The romantic sappy bits are not my favorite parts but, to be honest, they did fit in just fine. Also; Ricky Gervais!

What a piece of crap, I didn't like Gaiman's gooey post-modernist stories when they were the "thing" when I was young. When they are aged, they are even worst. It is unimaginative, badly executed (particularly the special effects) and very unengaging. De Niro does his bit, which was cool and Pfeiffer was alright too. the rest was a disaster.

This movie was a hoot. In a lot of ways this reminded me of a live action anime. The acting is all over the place but its part of the films charm. The dialogue is bad, laughably so. The cast was charming and likable I mean the only real downside is Claire Danes who I found annoying and extremely unattractive.

A fantastic fantasy film, if only for Robert De Niro in drag. Other than that Neil Gaiman contributed to the writing which puts it up a couple notches with his abilities. Vaughn, for only having done a couple movies, does an amazing job. A great collection of big names, and they all fit extremely well. This is an incredible movie.

If I'd watched this as a kid, it would have been one of my defining movies (like Ladyhawke, Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal were). Luscious, gorgeous fairytale that cunningly subverts the cliches, brilliant romp of a tale, and Michelle Pfeiffer was diabolically wicked. Laughed out loud as much in delight as at the deft and witty humour. Brilliant.

Yes,it's a bit different from the book but this is exactly what makes Stardust good.Stardust manages to keep the atmosphere of the book intact with altering a lot of aspects and in some places even strengthening a few parts of the story.Great fantasy, romance, adventure mixture with a perfect dose of comedy.Claire Danes, Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfeiffer were excellent. Based on the works of one of the most profoundly tallented writers of our time, Neil Gaiman, this faithful adaptation is a refreshingly origonal fantasy romp in the grand tradition of movies like The Princess Bride. Critics will snidely tell you that this movie tries in vain to actually be Princess Bride and utterly fails in that, but then again critics also panned Wizard of Oz as being unimaginative when it first came out...

Feels like a US film student trying to be both Hollywood and Terry Gilliam, creating an incredibly uneven experience. Is at least somewhat enjoyable 1) because of the lack of romantic, swashbuckling adventure in our current film climate and 2) people have forgotten DeNiro's genius and how it is wasted here. I love fantasy adventure, and the dialogue is crisper here than in 90 percent of other films, but the script/visuals' issues outweigh its pluses.

Fairly good movie. Well acted and well shot. Does a remarkable job of dancing the line between charming and corny. It's a rather silly little fairy tale with some obvious plot twists but it never seems boring or stupid. It is very light though. There is hardly any real fear of anything out of order occurring. There is no sense of danger because it is so obvious where it will all end up. With all that, it's still fun to watch. And Claire Danes is really beautiful in this.

Stardust doesn't deliver much surprises story-wise, but delightful narrative full of good humor was a very pleasant surprise for me. The first time I saw this movie, I felt like it continued on for far longer than necessary, but overall I liked it. After watching it again with a friend I realized the necessity of all the scenes and started appreciating it more. Now I can watch it anytime and never be bored. The ghosts of the brothers provide an excellent comic relief to the drama going on in the rest of the plot.

A magical adventure in a fantasy world. Very strong cast. Plenty of action and many clever story turns. Great acting all around, some laughs and thoroughly entertaining. This has a medieval feeling with a fast paced story of romance, fighting, magic, witches, transformations, and humorous, silly and fun elements. I enjoyed all of it. Michelle Pfeiffer was a wonderful bad witch, Robert De Niro was a hoot. Charlie Cox was very good in his role as Tristan, and Claire Danes was also good.

Just a fantasy movie. The cast is amazing and given the script (an awesome script, but though simple and not quite believable) they give good performances. Photography and direction are mediocre, but who cares anyways? You don't seek direction in this kind of films, you just sit to see magic, stars and that kind of thing.

I think the time was ripe for a new attempt at a half-mocking, half-serious fairytale/fantasy story, in a true Princess Bride spirit. And Stardust has done it quite well, at least in some parts. Somehow, however, it didn't really "click" together for me as a whole. And I was also very annoyed with the spectacular, lengthy and completely unnecessary visual effects. I really wish Hollywood stopped stuffing every film with pointless CGI. Leave the eye candy for kids.
