Cheered me up quite a lot watching it with the flu. Certainly has its moments. Not exactly breathtaking but a reasonably good yarn if a little predictable. Biggest disappointment for me was that I went to Bristol Uni and I didn't recognise most of the places supposedly on campus in the film.

Really this is just an excuse to watch James McAvoy be sexy, and Benedict Cumberbatch pretend not to be sexy, and be hilarious instead.

There are a few funny moments scattered throughout, and the entire game show sequence is pretty amusing. Other than that, it's just one big gimmicky John Hughes cliche.

i liked this film - it's completely light and nothing special, but it's a fun watch, and more than anything it's genuine. it knows what it is, and does what it sets out to well. the performances are also equal parts hilarious and touching. i'm not sure if i was a 100% on board with the ending, but other than that i think it was a sweet rom-com that came with a message, in it's own, light-hearted way.

Nice romantic comedy, not really inventive, but entertaining and additionally a good homage to the 80s.

I enjoyed but thought there would be the sporting underdog triumph bit before the romantic conclusion. And if you think it's a spoiler that the guy ends up with the girl then please pay more attention.

Fairly fun little movie, especially good if you like James McAvoy. Surprisingly touching parts about how a person is changed forever once he leaves home.

Quite good, for a British comedy. Nice 80s decor and use of locations. Suitable soundtrack. Ok casting. I didn't love the acting or dialogue, and all in all the story was a pale shadow of the book, but it did have its heart in the right place. Seemed to bypass much of the cheesy casting and in-jokes which have become a staple of the British film industry.

It's very light entertainment, but it does it well.

Fun little film with a pretty great soundtrack. I'm glad they didn't play up the wrong side of the tracks angle too much.

Despite a good cast, great soundtrack and well-done setting it's the same old Brit Dramedy we've seen a hundred times.

All a bit predictable, but it's well put together and the soundtrack is bang-on. Weirdly, they decided to film it somewhere other than Bristol uni though.

Enjoyable, light weight comedy with a great cast and soundtrack. For me it was really evocative of the early 80's at University.

John Hughes' teen films never felt so hum-drum. It's easy 2 be reminded of them given the wall-2-wall 80's soundtrack & impressive young actors on display, but the tunes & their talents are wasted on a tiresomely predictable script that except 4 some distinctive UK liberalism offers nothing even slightly different from what we've seen before. A sweet dispostion can only get a romantic dramedy so far. For better and worse, Hughes' best moments induced more of a reaction than "cute".

For one thing, I'm amazed by how they set the whole thing to the 80s. I thought it was really a 60s movie. Kind of cheesy, but just okay.
