After the mysterious brutal death of an old friend, a group of teenagers find themselves in possession of Stay Alive, a next generation horror survival videogame based on a spine-chilling true story. I have to agree with a lot of the reviews on here. It is a great concept, but the execution and plot are a dead ripoff of many other successful movies. Throw in the fact that 80% of the characters in the movie are unsympathetic and acted sub-par and you have a movie that begged to be better before it was euthanized by a deferral to the trite.

Current horror films have trouble at being original, but Stay Alive manages to come up with an interesting concept while the actual film is not that interesting. Still there are some very good moments and there are many worse horro movies out there.

the general idea wasn't even that bad. somewhat like nightmare on elm street with a computer game instead of the dream-theme. ok...now that i read it, even the idea was pretty bad.

One of the ugliest films I've ever seen. Everything is so dark and just looks like every shit mid 2000s horror movie. Still was weirdly intrigued by the whole thing. Mostly by Frankie Muniz's character rocking a green visor turned sideways so you know he's a socially inept gamer.

This movie tries hard to come up with fresh concepts for a tragically stale genre. While this attempt is noble, the movie ultimately fails from an incredibly non-suspenseful atmosphere and poorly contrived plot. Also, the current media portrayal of a "video game nerd" is both insulting and unsatisfying to watch. Ugh.

You'd think, with the films concept, that the writers and directors would know their stuff about games, but it only takes one watch of the Silent Hill conversation to realise they haven't got a fucking clue. That level of intelligence and logic is carried throughout the entire film too.

Hinted at a Ring/Elm Street/Final Destination romp but delivered; terrible acting, a pathetic script and a spectacular number of plot holes for such a simple story. Shame as the effects were pretty good.

Prime in the second wave of video games are the devil and destroying society (which true) comes this just bizarre movie even the characters in the movie acknowledge it. The goth chick was hot. I wish she didn't die. Stay Alive was pretty bad, but at least it does reach howlingly-bad "throw popcorn at the screen" bad, so there's some MST3K-level redemption if you watch with friends.

A sorta good idea mixed with some terrible acting , bad pacing and a cliched-to-bits story ( and the kills?) , ends up being a sorta enjoyable horror movie with nothing new. Tho the game they're playing does look sorta cool. but that would be the only thing. Only for the die hard fans of the genre

Top badass moment? I’m no expert on American horticulture, but those 'protective' wild roses didn’t look very wild to me; they were more like some sort of Modern Rose, a type that’s only existed since 1867. As the Countess was from the 17th Century, this doesn’t make much sense; a huge plot hole that I imagine ruins the whole film for most people. Also, I die a little when I hear a jemmy called a crowbar. A shame, as it could've been so much better. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

This is a silly, cheesy, clumsily executed mid-2000's horror mess, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun with it. First of all, look at this cast- Milo Ventimiglia, Sophia Bush, Frankie Muniz, Jimmi Simpson...it's loaded. Second, the premise is genuinely pretty great & if executed better could have been gold. I get why so many hate this & definitely think it's lacking, particularly in the gore department, but overall I was never bored watching it & did find the story interesting enough.

Stay Alive has a certain feel that I long for in horror movies. The only way I can describe it is to point to films like Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer. It may be a subjective experience because these types of films are when I first started watching horror movies, but nonetheless I exude joy when I discover a new one. The movie stars somewhat obscure, but notable actors, and it is always a fun exercise to connect the dots while watching. About halfway through, it felt like a completel
