This film was so random, but I think I got the story down: a perpetually drunk game hunter swaps girlfriends with an Austrian named Joe who is a Batman-impersonating bodybuilder by day and a backwoods fiddler by night. Next we see Sally Field's untanned ass, followed by some thugs shoving a pool cue into Robert Englund's crotch. Finally, a black guy rubs some oil on a hooker under a Confederate flag, and Bridges fights a rape-happy gym owner while 50 musclemen run about town flexing. The end.

My distant recollection is that this is a rather likeable little film.

An excellent film about the world of body building.

Peopled with odd characters and set in Birmingham, Alabama, Stay Hungry soaks in the local environment and the eccentricities of its characters to weave a very satisfying tale that is not dissimilar to Rafelson's earlier Five Easy Pieces and King of Marvin Gardens in that its protagonist is struggling to get out of the shadow of his family.

The humor of STAY HUNGRY hasn't aged well, but in contrasting a working-class fitness club with an upper-crust country club, it shows how a movie can endure based on novelty value alone. Casually set in the Deep South, the movie benefits from energetic early-career turns by Jeff Bridges and Sally Field, as well as the pleasure of spotting Arnold Schwarzenegger prior to the development of his cultural aura. Worth a curiosity watch to catch all of its IMDb mainstays on the rise.

There definitely seems like more attention could've been put on making Craig's life lesson more linear and not piecemeal. Feels like a mildly sloppy effort, and becomes somewhat boring in the middle, yet I can't help but enjoy it because it has such an identifiable core concept and an endearing spirit. Unlike the lead star, the flimsiness of the story seems to deliberately exude a feeling of uncertainty, all of which leads up to a (quite literally) strong ending.

Not unlikable but very unfocused. The lead actors are good. It's nice to see Jeff and Arnold's characters interacting in a bromantic way that's not portrayed anymore since it's now interpreted as "gay" behaviour.

This film has an interesting mix of characters. Both Jeff Bridges and Sally Field give good performances in this movie. The script keeps you watching and there are some original scenes. Overall I would recommend this film.

A strange movie and plot but had me the whole time. Jeff Bridges and Sally Field carry the movie, but some fun scenes with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
