I normally avoid chick flicks like the plague, but this one's pretty good thanks to a witty script, solid performances, and down-to-earth direction. You could endure far worse, guys.

Woman oriented drama that's a little too heavy on southern stereotypes and comes out more or less the same from where it started. While characters got married, had kids, and even died, I couldn't help but feel like there was little growth. Extra points for late 80's nostalgia, though.

Pretty much what you'd expect it to be: sometimes funny, sometimes sad and delivering a positive message. Sally Field is great, Julia Robert's accent not so much but overall enjoyable

I'll admit I've never watched all of this, but I've seen enough to know it's utter unfunny, annoying characters, total bullshit.

I can't really comment on the story. The female characters were so ditzy/annoying; and Julia Roberts accent was so bad, I could make it more than a few minutes into the film.

I thought Tom Skerritt was playing the wacky grandfather, and not Sally Field's husband. This film would pair well with Terms of Endearment.

A fairly subtle mix of comedy and drama providing one fairly convincing view of the southern states of America. Whitty and touching with Shirley MacLaine stealing many of the scenes with total ease. A great feel good movie.

Truly is as the tagline says the funniest movie to make you cry. Funny, heartfelt, and touching definitely one to have on hand when you need a good cry.

I really liked this movie. I thought it was serious when it had to be and funny when it could. The chemistry between the characters was so real I truly believed what I was watching. I think some of the parts went a little slow but I think it was still good.

Pure 80's, 'American Dream' and highly emotional "women movie". I liked it so much.

I'll give this one an "E" for "effort" since it doesn't deliberately exploit Dolly Parton's considerable attributes, but it would have been much better if it had been more down to earth. The hens flutter and cackle so much that it's hard to follow the story much of the time. Under the overbearing layer of corn is a decent story about six women and their everyday lives. It was sad to see one go, but death is a part of life, after all.

Classic. Breathtaking cinematography & incredibly brilliant performances. A little on the long side, a little melodramatic plotwise, but timeless. Best ending scene of almost any movie ever.

There was once a time when I would watch any movie. That time was the early 1990s, when I saw Steel Magnolias, a movie I did not care for one bit.

As a southerner, I feel like this nailed Southern white women pretty well... so much strength, sass, and heart.

A sweet movie without really much point. I do give it some props for a star-studded cast that didn't blow it, which sometimes happens. Some witty scenes as well, but again, I'm not really sure what the point was and the ending really didn't do anything.

The dialogue and writing is superb and truly hilarious if you really listen. Delivered by some of the biggest and best women. *Good

With such a strong and charismatic cast, Steel Magnolias just starts the race with an advantage. The much-talked-about sad ending seems to overshadow the wonderfully hilarious first two acts. Roberts got the Oscar nom but it is Field and MacLaine that really make this sing.
