Stan Brakhage does outer space. Bitchen. I could hear the overture of Rush's album _2112_ in my head while I was seeing this

Stellar.

It is impressive how Brakhage can employ minor variations in the same techniques to produce wildly different effects. In most respects, this resembles any of a dozen of the other painted films. But by simply adding a smattering of white dots, it looks for all the world like fantastic visions of the cosmos.

Looks like I'm a Brakhage fan, how curiously out of character for me. Stellar's a journey, quick flashes rocket you into a rush of colors that gradually crescendo until you reach your destination in a flash. Looking back, you realize what you thought you were seeing was just your mind creating patterns to reflect your own impressions back at you. Given an extra oomph because when it's over I see myself staring back in the pale glow of the blank screen. And it's all of three minutes long

Simply stellar!

Darkly colourful. Very similar to Brakhage's other 'painted film' shorts, but this one subtlety utilises some modern effects.

I like the shades of blue and red in this. It feels stupid to say that but it's the reason I enjoyed it. The star motif too.

What's the point? Exactly what do you like about this film? For real? Thanks for motion sickness, Brakhage.

evocative of nebulae. this is getting pretty repetitive. i think i'll stop for the night. i'm sure i'll watch dog star man one day...one day.
