I honestly prefer Will Ferrell in PG movies rather than R due to his ability to come up with hilarious alternatives to swearing. This movie was far more direct, crass and felt like it was being vulgar simply for the sake of being vulgar. Still I laughed, admittedly far more than I should have, but then I'm a sucker for Will Ferrell. Bonus points for Ferrell and Reilly's slow motion walk to their job interview as they push and bully everyone else around them.

Okay, while I don't see why this is getting so much praise, I can definitely see why so many of my friends liked it so much. Step Brothers may have some flimsy spots, and while it's pretty crude, Farrell and Riley are absolutely great to watch together. Some of the gags are freakin' hilarious. On a side note, I think Will Ferrell is a very talented singer.

The art of the delivery. Sure, excessive cursing is a shallow comedic crutch but the *way* that Mary Steenburger cries out "What the fucking fuck" makes me forget that and submit to laughter.

The content promised so much more and I was lead to believe this was one of the funniest movies I'd ever see. There were a few chuckles, but I was completely underwhelmed. Reilly is the lone star here, I believe. Ferrell's performance just didn't deliver the punch I expected and most lines felt constantly forced and uncomfortable. Predictable, crude and dumb. With the exception of Reilly and Mary Steenburgen, all parties were trying too hard to force the funny instead of just letting it happen.

I won't attempt to defend it on any intellectual or artistic level. It's retarded. But the sheer cognitive dissonance of watching respected Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly, who has starred in Paul Thomas Anderson and Martin Scorsese films, run around in his underwear farting and fighting preteen boys and gibbering like a retard made me laugh quite a bit, and was ultimately worth the price of admission.

It's another Will Ferrell film, with all that entails. It must be a piece of piss picking films for him. Does his character have curly hair and a semi-retarded man-child approach to life? Is John C Reilly his friend somehow? Is both are yes, winner winner chicken dinner! Gods...

The movie improves the more I watch it. While I found it slightly disappointing on first viewing (mostly because Talladega Nights set such a lofty standard for this pairing), perhaps I was too harsh. Or maybe now knowing what to expect, I can take in the movie for what it is, which is stupid as hell, but also, hilarious. This time out I couldn't stop giggling, and caught great jokes I'd missed before. A consistently funny film. Reilly is a brilliant comedian. BEST DVD COMMENTARY EVER!

I think I saw it on the airplane as an inflight movie after watching 3 other movies in a row, but I'm not sure. Maybe I fell asleep... I guess the magic of Ferrell's type of funny movies is getting worn out.

This has its funny moments but on the whole its just two adults who are incapable of growing up and accepting responsibility but these two guys need to be in some kind of asylum. Kids bickering and arguing isnt overly funny but supposed adults doing it is just plain annoying. They aren't immature, they have some kind of full on disorder! As with most Will Ferrell films its absurd and ridiculous but provides enough laughs not to completely write it off.

As with every movie of this type, there is always one glaringly obvious miscast. This time around it is very clearly Micah Sudduth as an uncredited Mangina Choir Boy. Nearly ruined the whole thing.

Over the top in a "Freddy Got Fingered" sort of way, but still really enjoyable. The chemistry between Ferrell and Reilly is amazing. There's a lot more intelligence here than there is in most of today's mainstream comedy. The humor is relatively creative. And if you've ever known a sleepwalker, you will laugh to the point of tears. It IS art, whether you want to admit it or not.

Delivers what you expect from a Will Ferrel comedy, ridiculous situations and a bunch of jokes. Not everything works and certain parts of his act grate on me, but I found there to be more hits than misses and probably his funniest straight comedy since Anchorman.

Just when I thought I was done with Will Ferrell, Step Brothers comes along and rejuvenates my faith in an actor who's suffered from extreme overexposure in the last decade. The chemistry between Ferrell and Reilly is undeniable and infectious to the point that the deleted scenes are as funny as, if not in some spots funnier, than the film itself. The supporting cast is great as well, particularly Mary Steenburgen, Richard Jenkins, and Adam Scott.

Talk about yuck. "Dumb & Dumber" celebrates idiocy while "Step Brothers" celebrates the filth of its idiocy. The problem here with the ten-year-old potty mouths that Ferrell and Reilly play- is that they're not likable or believable, and they don't have much to do other than scream and drop F-bombs. I hated this film 15 minutes after the initial amusement wore away. Not a single character is from this planet. It's just pathetic filmmaking, becoming a circus of noise and mean-spirited chaos.

It's brutally retarded, and actually poorly made, but something about it keeps bringing me back for more. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly could co-star in a documentary about paint drying, and I would still find it hilarious. Even if this is just two hours of them fucking around, I'm going to recommend it just based on that.

Will Ferrell is just plain annoying, but John C Reilly more than makes up for it. The man is a terrific comedic actor. And the scene where they beat the shit out of 12 year-olds puts the film just over the top to where I can comfortably recommend it. Just tremendous.

Starts out reasonably well - Ferrell and C. Reilly as spiteful new siblings seeming to promise comedy gold - but it never gets really funny because of the very weak material. Too bad.

This movie is a happy medium in Will Ferrell movies between AnchorMan (which I love) and Talladega Nights (which I hate). There are parts of this movie that just don't fit my sense of humor, but other areas had me laughing. The Chewbaca mask was good, and the ploys to prevent people to move in were funny. The ending song was so so, but it was a fair movie. I definitely found myself laughing by myself (my date refused to watch it). Best line... "Your voice is a mix of Fergie and Jesus"

Relies too heavily on the whole step-brothers thing to be funny, and it gets old fast. This leaves only the sporadic and rare, but extremely funny, jokes to pick up the slack. The Deus Ex Machina type of ending is kind of cheesy, but effective and satisfying.

This movie was trying waaay too hard. It went off the deep-end almost immediately. I don't remember laughing, and if I did it was a very minimal chuckle. Very disappointing film considering the great chemistry these two have in other movies. The worst part for me was when Ferrell sang. It seemed to drag on and on and on.

McKay is the best absurdist-comedy-about-grown-ups-behaving-like-kids director out there -- I mean, after the Farrellys -- and I assert that pointing out what is so great about the unrated version of Step Bros: 1) Boats & Hoes, 2) Ferrell singing -- every bit of his overacting here is brilliant, 3) Reilly banging his bro's wife, 4) Ric Jenkins losing his shit, 5) Ferrell and Reilly licking dog shit, 6) Ferell and Reilly pitching Prestige Worldwide, 7) Ferrell's weirdo family singing together.

A movie that's more fun to quote with friends then to watch start to finish. I don't know why, but I just don't like it that much(and I like most of Ferrell's work). It feels like the secondary characters (Rob Riggle, Adam Scoot)were more funny than the main people.

It's probably fair to say that Ferrell's comedy outings have become increasingly erratic in terms of general quality in recent times. This however is a diamond among the turds. The chemistry between the two leads is excellent. Stupid, but funny.

Mistakes - 1) In the scene where Alice spells words with her food on her dinner plate asking to have sex, the very next view of her shows a smaller plate in front of her. 2) After arriving to the new house, Brennen is seen in the car as Nancy and Robert talk to the neighbor (Don). Brennen's Arm is seen up holding the handle on the interior of the car near the window then down between each shot.

Unexpectedly delightful comedy which works as well as it does thanks to pitch-perfect (and sincere) performances from both Ferrell and Reilly, ably supported by Steenburgen and Jenkins. The genuine performances help offset the largely outlandish and absurd premise, and while the comedy itself certainly lacks sophistication, it is undeniably hilarious at times, and even manages to be quite moving (in a fashion) by the finale.

Step Brothers is one of my favourite comedies and I think it's criminally underrated. Adam McKay and Will Ferrell collaborate brilliantly once again. And John C. Reilly is a perfectly cast and more than worthy addition to the array of comic talent. Ferrel & Reilly are absolutely hilarious together and between them they have so many memorable and quotable moments. The entire supporting cast is strong also. This is definitely not too far behind 'Anchorman' and I hope eventually we get a sequel.

It's hard to defend, but I've enjoyed this film every time i've watched it, and I'm quite frankly embarrassed to admit to seeing it more than once. Ferrell and Reilly are almost disturbingly good playing these man child characters, and Jenkins and Steenburgen are unlikely casting choices that reap huge dividends, while Scott was presumably born to play assholes. With a more daring script I think they could have really had something.

Way over-the-top? Yes. But the adult-child antics of Ferrell and Reilly are never anything less than laugh-out-loud hilarious (and the final act in which they suppress then re-capture their spunk for life brings it down to earth in moving fashion), whether they're having meltdowns at the dinner table or naively starting international corporations. A great supporting cast of characters (sympathetic mom, short-fused dad, douche-y and successful brother) rounds out the story and the humour nicely.

Will Ferrell teams back up with Adam McKay as well as John C. Reilly in another stupid fun time. Highly quotable, Ferrell and Reilly have amazing chemistry improvising opposite each other. However, the movie often feels like just that, just a lot of improvising to see what sticks. This is turn makes the movie constantly hit and miss.

It was dumb funny and wouldn't have worked without Will Farrell and John C. Reilly. I didn't care for Adam Scott's character---they gave him some quirks that never amounted to anything plot-wise. Fav scene: Will Farrell singing always cracks me up.
