Stranger on Horseback

a cheapie which in its economy keeps a pretty tight rein on tourneur's directorial personality, but his optimism shines through by the end when even the villainous baron proves to be reasonable in appreciating the value of civility, the waste of bloodshed. the care he puts into worldbuilding is also evident, scattering the film with memorable supporting performances (including a striking turn from miroslava, rendered tragic by her imminent suicide).
