One set filmed play well shot by director and cinematographer, well performed and cast. Allen saw this for MANHATTAN, and you can't help but think of a more contained, relaxed and much less biting DO THE RIGHT THING. Based on a Pulitzer winning play.

Sylvia Sidney's face is so expressive. Excellent for dramas. And while there are many good acts here in this street drama, she is the strongest. The movie isn't exactly action filled, but got a certain kind of atmosphere as it's filmed like the stage play it's based on where we view the building from the street and the neighbours communicating through the windows and the front stairs. A smart movie from King Vidor.
