Su-ki-da

A movie where nothing happens. Which makes it glorious. I loved how everybody was realistically horrible at playing the guitar. A difficult film to ascribe a number to, and an even harder one to write a review for. Whatever the film was trying to do - and even that is difficult to describe - it nailed it. Beyond that it just comes down to personal preference.

Absolutely one of the most beautiful and heartfelt films I've ever seen.

For me this was sloooooowwwww and a nothing happens film, still it is very popular, why I'm not sure. Chock full of long gazes into the distance.

I don't know about its ending but the mood it creates is pretty amazing.

Beautiful movie. Loved the middle part. "Suki da." 'Ore mo'

I absolutely loved the cinematography and quiet atmosphere in here. The sparse and deliberate dialogue works for me, and not a single dialogue is wasted, constantly moving things forward but still retaining the same "stillness". The acting is brilliant and you could tell it isn't simple to transmit all the subtle cues at the right timing. Horrible guitar playing has also never been so beautiful.

I don't usually like long, extended scenes where there isn't a lot of action, but it worked with this film, for the most part. The story was touching, even with the ending.

Very quiet, very still. So much of this film is taken up by silence, by those moments in which we struggle to know the right thing to say. It finds the beauty in those moments, and the whole film builds to the wonderful catharsis when we finally find it and say it. Lovely.
