While it's a meaningful, poignant, and, sadly, relevant film, Suffragette suffers from a couple of issues that keep it from being anything other than another decent British period drama. It lacks interesting characters and a complex plot, leading to it feeling far too slow and dull, at times, to be great. Carey Mulligan is good in the lead role, the costumes and set design are great, and it will make you think about feminism now and then, as well as the rights that you take for granted today.

Historically inaccurate, stupid, and anti-man. Terrible movie. Ben Shapiro sums it up better than I ever could: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHmytdLVn5w&t=4m40s More leftist propaganda.

The problem with this was always going to be that it's only a shortcut for the larger movement and probably doesn't do it enough justice. Carey Mulligan was great in this lead role and whilst the film overall is well made, the story didn't feel relevant enough and you wanted to see so much more about this fascinating and frustrating period.

Same as all the other historical bio-dramas - nothing new. Carey Mulligan is cool. Meryl Streep on the poster just for her cameo? Also, good luck with Saudi Arabia.

Apparently pretty accurate, and well done except for the godawful, nearly perpetual shaky-cam.

Relevant topic and likeable enough, but a movie that both falls to and fails the Based On A True Story template in that it reduces a mass movement to a handful of characters who do everything, and yet fails to provide them with much to actually do.

A powerful feminist film that doesn't pander to men's feelings at all.

The true events behind this film are incredible important & powerful. Beyond that, it was fine, I guess. I can't really fault anything about it - good performances, nice cinematography, pretty decent screenplay... It's all very competent. But that's about it. I could tell when it was trying to appeal to my emotions, but it didn't really work for me. I don't exactly recommend it, but there's nothing wrong with it. It will certainly serve well as a good movie to show to schoolchildren.

A great cast and a fascinating story uninventively told.

Earnest, educational film, but with a climax lacking in drama if you know what is going to happen.

Not the best acting I've seen, with the exceptance of Carter. The movie moves pretty slow and Mulligan was for sure not the right woman to play the lead. But, the subject is heart breaking. It's easy to forget all the sacrifices made by so many years ago. This is a story that should not be forgotten and so I am glad Suffragette was made. 58/100.

A fairly formulaic beginning sees a young working-class mother in 1912 London get caught up in a political movement which will see her lose (in true Hollywood fashion) her job, her son, her freedom. But they'll never take... HER INTEGRITY!!! Yes, the plot is a little bit Braveheart, but thanks to fine work from Carey Mulligan (who has one of those vulnerable, puppy-dog faces) and a quality supporting cast, it's never too silly. Even achieves tension, atmosphere and excitement at times.

A terribly important story to remember mainly because although this film took place 100 years ago, women continue to struggle for equality in the USA, and to struggle for basic rights around the world. Also the acting, dialogue, and story were pretty good.

Disjointed. The decision to focus on fictional characters seems ill-judged and, crucially, the film fails to convey the _reasons_ these women fought so hard for the vote. Characters are radicalised in seconds and seemingly stay that way simply through nothing more than inertia.

The pacing wasn't good and to be honest I got a bit bored. It's a shame because the story deserved better.

Bleak, but I learned something. Too bad it's 2015 and women still have so far to go.

There are times when the movie piles on troubles with too heavy a hand. At other times, Suffragette blazes with a fire that cannot be denied. And you see it all on Mulligan's wonderfully expressive face.

A grim movie, it was well staged because it went for that dirty look of the middle class from industrial revolution, but dirty looking movies are not really my thing. I think the story is well told and it really shows the struggle, but I would've liked more points of view from the leaders of the women group.

One of those films that's so competently made that despite the story being told the end result is quite dull. It's basically the Suffragette Wikipedia page told through one fictional character - a device that always makes historical episodes such as these seem much smaller than they actually were.

A good companion to Iron Jawed Angels, and a very well-acted one at that. Sadly still quite relevant as well. Carey Mulligan is fantastic in the lead, was really happy to see her in another movie after Promising Young Woman & will be looking into more of her work. Meryl Streep is in approximately one scene despite being a huge piece of the marketing, that bugs me. Anne-Marie Duff or Natalie Press should have gotten that billing. A story worth making yourself familiar with. It does end suddenly.

Good performances, but the pacing is off and it ends up not really working as a film unless you're particularly interested in the material - in which case I would probably recommend it.

A solid, worthy well told story. Which rather than focusing on the key historical figures, looks at the everywoman's experience.

Entertainment: 3/4 Meryl Streep essentially was a long cameo, even though the marketing of this movie suggests that she plays an important role. Spirit: 1.5/3 Willingness to sacrifice for one's cause. Sustainability: 1.5/3 Women's rights.

A friend of mine saw the trailer and said this film feels like it was written by George Lucas. I'll have to agree with her on that. Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson and Carey Mulligan are top-notch here, but the film is so white. Don't get fooled by the prolific advertising of Meryl Streep in this film, she's only in it for literally five minutes.

Meh. It's not a terrible movie but it doesn't offer to the audience anything new and also it has some problems on editing and directing side. Still, watching a movie about suffragette movement was interesting.

As much as I like Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter I just never really felt a true connection to these characters. The main reason could be that was designed specifically to make us feel something and it came off forced.

Has so much to teach us about a time when men crushed women, but stumbles pretty hard to make us care. Does a strong job of showing the hopeless situation, but the people in is becomes simple caricatures trapped in this Suffragette (2015). Which is a shame considering all the strong women making an appearance in this film.

Great take on direct action, but unfortunately the class aspect of early feminism is totally ignored in here.
