An endless summer adventure with John Candy. (It's 80 minutes long but feels like forever, but you got John Candy to make it better)

Summer Rental is a pretty basic summer comedy. It seems like it wants to be National Lampoons: Vacation but it doesn't have half the comedy but there is a lot of heart. John Candy plays an overworked dad who just wants to give his family a good vacation but, like all vacations, nothing turns out the way it's planned. Rip Torn provides a good partner for Candy in this comedy. Sadly, John Larroquette wasn't used to the fullest extent. Not a classic, but fun.

Even Candy can't save this mess. Boring.

It has its moments, but in the end it's just another John Candy vehicle where he plays a frustrated everyman who somehow overcomes some moderately difficult challenge while bringing his family closer together and gaining life experience....all with interesting secondary characters.

Innocuous, boring, unfortunately like most of the late John Candy's films.

Not great but still an entertaining way to spend an afternoon.

It's like a tamer version of National Lampoon's Vacation films. John Candy is likable and it's always nice to see Rip Torn and Richard Crenna have parts. Predictable and gets boring by focusing too much on the sailing competition. Some bonus points for 80's nostalgia but it's not really worth hunting down.
