One of the not quite awesome Gene Kelly movies. I mostly blame Judy Garland. They did not seem to have any chemistry.

Christopher Guest has 100% seen this. And check out the scene where Judy Garland sings on the porch, but little does she know that Gene Kelly's sitting right there, looking like he got replaced by a mannequin. And the big feet... good god no one talks about how weird old musicals are

You'd think a musical with Gene Kelly and Judy Garland would be fantastic, but boy is this boring.

Not bad, but far less satisfying that you might think a musical with Gene Kelly and Judy Garland should be

Predictable but joyful film with some conflicts that are compelling enough to care about. Kelly and Garland make a great onscreen pairing, especially when they get to sing and step together. As for the songs, "Heavenly Music" is the low point of the film, but "Get Happy" is an absolute delight. The other songs are middling, but perfectly pleasant. I like my musicals with a little more pep, a little more razzle-dazzle. Still, this one has plenty of charm to go around, thanks largely to its leads.

This is an absolutely magnificent musical with both Kelly and Garland in top form. Kelly in particular is even more charming than usual. He shares a fantastic dance number with Garland and has a wonderful solo number with a creaky floor board and a newspaper. It's gorgeously shot ... absolute eye candy.

A happy ending to Judy Garland's sad exit from MGM.
