Surprising roles for both Matt Dillon and Naomi Watts, but they both pulled it off.

Again writer-director Collyer touches some depressed and depressing realities - as she did with 'Sherrybaby' (2006) - and again she's (even more) bailed out by an awesome cast from a script not nearly as convincingly powerful. *Preview*: #13#, exp-3*, cast!, R2.

slow drama with no real plot...

Carried by Watts' typically great performance & a strong one by Dillon as well, it's a decidedly indie indie film- but that's not a bad thing here. With its very real and very grounded plot, characters that never feel hollow, and talented cast, it's a perfectly watchable movie. It does have problems, though, namely the sudden and jarring change in Dillon's character a ways in & a couple scenes that seem to go nowhere & do nothing. Ultimately, it's worth a look if it sounds interesting.
