An underwhelming experience from start to finish, from the songs, to the dialogue, acting, locations, mise-en-scene, direction and beyond. I suppose the best thing about this film is its structure and weaving of narratives, but with so many boring scenes and so little to recommend in terms of characters or visual pleasures, the whole thing is an amateurish write-off. Most of the songs sound the same, they should have experimented with some other writers.

After hearing again and again about how utterly brilliant this is I figured I'd either hate this or find it just okay. It's okay

Your love of this will largely depend on your tolerance of a) jukebox musicals and b) the unique musical stylings of The Proclaimers. If you can embrace both, this is a bloody good time; to hell with concerns over the obviously-written-to-fit-in-as-many-songs-as-possible script; if you're not singing "Over and Done With" on the way out of the theatre, you have no soul.

A disconcerting blend of dark themes and uplifting Proclaimers songs.

I think your enjoyment of this film would be enhanced if your a fan of the Proclaimers but this is still really fun to watch! Some of the shots of Edinburgh are simply stunning and a really good backdrop to the story. How the writer has managed to fit in all of those songs and make a good flowing narrative is an excellent creative achievement. Its one of the best musicals movies I have seen!

Sometimes i find my dislike of musicals embarrassing, like it's my fault, like I've missed something really obvious. Figured a modern-day folk-pop one based in Edinburgh might be different enough to maybe change my mind, at least a little. Some moments were literally unbearably saccharine, had to change channels.

Lovely. Proof the Proclaimers have more than one song. A far far better jukebox musical than Mamma Mia, despite a smaller pool of songs. Mostly because the plot makes sense and everyone can sing.

Probably more for the music than the storyline. Great voices but I thought a much softer edge to some of The Proclaimers hits.
