SuperFly

Surprisingly, this modern remake of the 70's blaxploitation classic "Super Fly"(1972), wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Maybe it was because I just had watched the original and two lesser sequels, but all things considered, this was an alright gangster movie. Although maybe a tad long, {I'm looking at you awkward threesome shower scene}, however considering how thin the original film was, the remake's beefed up production managed to flesh out the story a bit, which was nice.

I wrestled with myself about whether I'd give this a minor pass or fail. I'm going with fail because it's forgettable to the point that it's not worth seeing. That doesn't mean it's bad because it isn't, it's a fairly okay decent average crime movie that doesn't bring anything new or refreshing to the table while also not doing anything that well either.

I liked it. Probably burdened with being a reboot of a social commentary of the original. Would have been a nice crime movie on its own. Cynthia MVP. Not sure what happened to Aldalberto---did they pressure cook him? Conflicts were resolved too neatly and quickly. Fav scene: the entire sequence of Fat Freddy being pulled over, revealing the villain, and then him being pulled over again and you know what's going to happen.

Superfly isn't good, per se, and it's not so-bad-it's-good either. It's just weirdly enjoyable, despite all the many flaws you can hold against it. The original still reigns supreme.
