It has an intriguing concept but then rushes through what should have been a better thought out story. It plays out exactly how you think it will. Superman is corrupted by ideology to learn all humanity deserves life and freedom. It's well animated and the voice acting is top notch. When I personally watch elseworlds stories I want the outlandish to be present because if it just uses the same themes presented differently it is still the same thing overall. Russian Batman is the best part of this

Way better than I expected: sure, the animation is pretty on par with the early 2000 DC animated series but the story is well represented and the dynamics between a too-far Batman vs a too-far Superman are always fun in any world.

It’s not a completely unsatisfying experience given some of the animation and voice work. But this is undoubtedly a poor adaptation of Millar’s high quality and nuanced novel, which is misrepresented shamefully in the final third in particular. The story is reduced to the bare basics of triumphalist flag waving nonsense. A real shame.
