Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon

A fascinating documentary about a fascinating man.

He's an interesting charactrer, for sure, but it falls into the standard "character profile documentary" routine. Probably worth checking out in spite of this.

One of those larger than life characters where it'd just be too hard to screw up a documentary about him. Shep Gordon is one of the biggest ballers ever to grace earth.

This is two different films: 1. Decently interesting musical history combined with very interesting publicity tactics, and the beginnings of a biopic wherein you "love to hate" the focal character. 2. We rather quickly descend into the mawkish waste-of-time that is a profile of a sad, rich man who has such a terrible time living in Maui that his single regret is he didn't accidentally impregnate a groupie so he'd be able to die an old man once the kid entered kindergarten.

What a phenomenal dude this Shep guy. Didn't know he also invented the whole concept of the celebrity chef.
