James Garner plays a ladies' man who ends up on the run from a conquest. He has an embarrassing problem that requires a doctor, but that is not immediately disclosed. He and a town barsweep form a plot to impersonate a well known gunfighter so that Garner can pay off his debts and skip town before the soon to come arrival of the real gunfighter. (imdb)

the whole idea of having a pretty good movie, and two years later with the exact same cast and crew making a markedly similar movie sounds pretty genius to me, and it friggin' worked too. the first one was just a little bit better.

Some good silly fun. James Garner really strings the whole thing along. The last line of the film is probably the best joke, it really lands.

Much like Don Knotts, James Garner has made a career of playing the same character in different periods and calling it original. Not that that's a bad thing and this certainly delivers a fun ride of a movie with some great one-liners, just nothing stands really stands out.
