Another success for Bujalski's brand of low-key indie comedies with small stakes and big hearts. Regina Hall kills it as the empathetic sports bar manager who has to deal with one crisis after another, and Haley Lu Richardson is, as usual, a delight.

After watching HLR as a high schooler in Five Feet Apart it was surprising to see her in this role which she does great in as well. Maybe it just speaks to how young the girls who work in breastaurants are. Regina Hall knocks it out of the park as always. Slice of life movie set at a restaurant reminds me of Waiting with fewer crude jokes and more heart. Fav scene: Regina Hall not taking any shit from Shaina or her bad boyfriend.

A quiet, compelling performance by Regina Hall. It's too bad this film doesn't get enough support, because I think she earned herself a nom.

The first hour is perfection; a workplace dramedy with a heroine navigating racial, gender, and class conflicts while trying to make it through the day. Regina Hall is amazing, as are the younger performers. On top of the laughs, I learned about the environment. However, it loses focus as it shifts from the manager to an ending that doesn't resolve things as much as it stops them. Still, this is recommended as a profound film about working people's struggles--a topic too often avoided in movies.

I liked a few of the characters in this story. Regina Hall was good. Haley Lu Richarson was especially cute and bubbly. The story is a bit mundane and ordinary. The restaurant meltdown was humorous, but it has few laugh-out-loud moments. The ending sort of flops. It was fun to watch, but it needed more.

I was lucky enough to attend a pre-screening and Q&A of this magnificent piece of cinema - and I'm sure everyone who appreciates realist comedy (a rarity in American cinema) will love it. It's a winning combination of great writing and a cast that's working its socks off and obviously having fun in the process.

Strong comedy from Bujalski, with an ending that ties the whole film together. I almost felt as if Bujalski had written the beautiful final scene first, then conceived a movie around it that would properly contextualize that sequence. That's not a slight on the rest of the film, which is funny and heartfelt and thoughtful on issues such as gender and race and class. Regina Hall is splendid.

For better or worse this movie was extremely realistic. Hall and HLR are definitely giving it everything they got, and largely succeed in doing so. Unfortunately the supposed humor was completely lost on me. Actually after finishing this film I was genuinely surprised to find out it was a Comedy. Overall this movie just felt pointless. It was maybe kinda entertaining, but beyond that I didn't know what this film had to say message wise that any vaguely aware adult wouldn't already know.

Wonderful and heartfelt film is like an unscrewed screwball comedy as Hall's day gets more and more maddeningly complex and convoluted; manages to make many salient direct and indirect hits relating to gender and race, while never letting the pace slacken. Wonderful cast headed by a magnetic Hall, who is the perfect fulcrum at the centre of the whirlwind, and McHayle and Richardson. Perfect bittersweet finale.

I'm not seeing the comedy here as I only laughed a time or two, but I am seeing good chemistry between Hall, McHayle and Richardson, and that goes a long way in establishing this as a good movie, even if I didn't find it funny. Kind of just went along doing its thing, not being real substantial but having a good heart. I really enjoyed the ending, it felt earned and a little unexpected (abrupt endings can be really good if done right and it is here).

Sorority and solidarity in a local sports bar and grill that seems to be on his last days -- Mancave franchise is opening any day now. Lisa, the manager, wants every girl to be respected. She's the least selfish girl on earth. A family tied together not by business, but by friendship, some crazy stuff -- doing a pre-show while the TVs are off --, making a scream party in the end, helping who needs help, being cheerful to those who are down, a fundraiser. Affection can survive capitalism.

A really low-key and extremely likable light comedy-drama that sneaks up on you for many reasons, not the least of which is Hall's really magnificently subtle performance.

As a comedy it failed completely. I did not laugh or even snicker once. Even so, it has a lot of unassuming charm and humanity, especially in Haley Lu Richardson and a great performance by Regina Hall. Feels quintessentially American, which perhaps does not translate as well to a Norwegian like myself.

Echoing what everyone else has said, Regina King is just phenomenal. Her quite strength and moments of brief breakdown are so authentic to this quaint bar on the side of a highway. Serving as manager, friend, mother, and a whole host of other roles to these girls, she navigates a typical day in a life that quietly frustrates her. The final scene is cathartic and invigorating.

A mostly fun and inspiring dramedy about good ol' edge-of-the-highway hostess work. But I do think it gets routinely mired in trying to be too wacky with its comedy, feeling tonally out of place and making an otherwise realist film feel instead heightened. The acting is pretty superb, which is fortunate for such great characters.

I definitely respected the main character, bar manager Lisa (played very well by Regina Hall) who really seems to have her colleagues/co-workers backs, as it were. She's tested by what she faces on the day this film covers - themes covered include sexual assault and violence. I enjoyed seeing the way the girls open up to one another and how Lisa dealt with things. This is a part sobering watch, which is memorable and stands out for one main reason - the way the main character, Lisa, defends and

"Support the Girls" is an honest portrayal of working-class women in a Hooters-like restaurant, capturing the struggles and camaraderie of its characters. Regina Hall shines as manager Lisa, and the ensemble cast adds depth to the story. The film's authenticity is its strength, but its chaotic narrative and focus on day-to-day drama can overshadow more serious issues.

Support the Girls is a slice-of-life film that firmly believes comedy is born from tragedy. Exposition is out, and the context of most of what occurs during the film is only ever alluded to; a deliberate stylistic choice, though one I found a little alienating. Hall and Richardson are great, and their characters compelling. McHayle was a little uneven. The women in this film are strong, flawed and determined; but ending the film with them screaming from the rooftop felt like a cop-out.

Don't act clumsy and call it authenticity! And then, they did the Garden State ending. Lord, help us all!
