Excellent documentary. True, any children's services worker would be appalled. I was. It's easy to peg Doc as some whack-job until you see the full spectrum of his humanity. From his pride over the life lessons he managed to teach his children, to his regret over the lessons he knows he failed to teach them. You may not want to live the life the Paskowitzes did exactly, but most I know would kill for a piece of it.

Doug Pray's film on iconoclast surfer Dorian Paskowitz is the rare documentary that doesn't corral you towards a point-of-view, nor does it simply leave a bunch of questions hanging. It explores a dilemma central to parenthood --the more you want your children to share your worldview, the more you have to guide them, or perhaps force them to do things they otherwise wouldn't do.

At times inspirational, at times infuriating, and in the end very, very moving, this is a superb documentary with an incredibly interesting story to tell.

My envy outweighs my pity and their love outweighs their hate. File under #lifestyle-idea-better-than-execution.
