Suzanne

Affecting and realistic, "Suzanne" nevertheless falls indistinctively into the 'artsy sad hand-held camera coming-of-age tale' category. It is however weirdly elliptical -we only seem to be getting an outline of Suzanne's story. On the one hand, it makes the whole thing more intriguing, on the other, it limits emotional investment which is, after all, the WHOLE POINT of tragic coming-of-age tales. There's plenty of emotional truth in the film but it comes in morsels.
