Sweat

As the title may suggest, this is infused with a tonne of energy. It moves along with a kinetic pace, with its docudrama aesthetic making it feel so immediate and personal, even if the story itself isn't moving as quickly. It calms down as it goes along, focusing on the life of Sylwia, but just doesn't manage to fit in enough of her life to really make it seem like we understand as much about her as the film does.

Engaging as a social media feed of a star meant to please in a series of programmed content, of course, because how could it not be, but also kind of limited to the heavy-handed, Black Swan-esque frame the director imposes to both character and narrative, although this is mostly the leading actress' show.

This film has some interesting points to make about the age of influencers. The workout shots were mesmerising and original, and I liked the exploration of the mother/daughter relationship. However, I just can't overlook the fact that the female protagonist finds redemption through caring for a man who has been nothing but abusive towards her. Not a great message.
