Sweet Sixteen

Depressing coming of age movie.

Interesting film. Has the (dubious?) distinction of being the only English language film I've ever needed subtitles for.

Realistic but mundane. The direction and acting is fine but the story lacks clarity and comes to a very unexciting climax. Added to the fact you will not be able to understand what anyone is saying without subtitles. You will also become immune to profanities by watching this film.

Like QVT, I needed subtitles, haha. I felt like such a loser, nice to know I'm not alone. Cheers Sweet Sixteen Subtitle Buddy. This didn't grab me emotionally like, say, This is England did, but this was a good movie and I can't fault it so much.

A cold yet powerful coming-of-age film. Martin Compston does excellent for his first role. Gripping, but occasionally stumbles into clichéd territory.

Quite liked it but -as with the other Loach films I've seen- it was hampered by obviousness.

Estreava há 20 anos em Cannes. Sou muito traumatizada com o cinema do Loach desde sempre, ele nos transporta para uma sensação de impotência muito difícil de suportar perante as mazelas da sociedade, só para fazer uma analogia tosca, é um tipo de mal estar semelhante a passar duas horas vendo notícias sobre o governo bolsobosta. Aqui vemos a vida de um jovem lentamente sendo destruída em função de suas interações com o ambiente social, como é usual em Loach desde o início de seu cinema. Rip MKO

a boy tries to save his mother from herself and lift his, his sister's and her son's lives up through selling drugs. It's all going really well, everything's smelling of roses, it's all going to end happily ever after and .......OOPS there you go, it all turned to shit. Or should that be shet?

Very good.

Powerful and poignant, but most of all depressing. There's not much hope in sight here. Masterfully written characters.

Thank god for subtitles.
