Sympathy for the Devil

Nicolas Cage performance, which goes from over the top to legitimately menacing (oftentimes at the drop of a hat), makes this worth watching. But besides that, it really doesn't bring that much to the table. When it's revealed why everything is happening it's satisfying enough but not especially memorable. That's about the story for the movie as a whole, outside of Cage.

Sure it's a B-movie, but this movie delivers exactly what you want from it without any waste.

This might be the weirdest road movie I've watched. Too bad that it's still pretty boring, tho the ending did make me think; not for what it says, but for what it shows, and how much both fit.

not so good

I'm pretty sure Joel Kinnaman did not receive a script and is just live reacting to what Nicolas Cage does. Which is great.

Not great. Nic Cage gets to have fun for almost the entire runtime which is definitely a positive.

Cage and Kinnaman play off each other well for the better part of this films run time. The last 20 minutes are basically off the rails and not in a good way. The story telling and plot points could have been better delivered. It is enjoyable though despite the limitations imposed by the somewhat simplistic script.

Movie Marathon 3, Mysterious and intense I suppose, the plot was pretty straightforward and near guessable. Though there was of course the accidental comedy of Nic Cage acting over the top as he is known for. You don’t know how far he will go, and part of you wonder if he was just let loose without a script so he could ad lib everything his character said or did. I like to believe everybody else’s fear was legit feelings the actors had

Sympathy for the Devil is an okay film that's reasonably paced but only moderately interesting. Cage hams it ups with badly-dyed red hair. Kinnaman is decent. Neon lights and plenty of medium close-up shots add a seedy mood to the slightly claustrophobic aesthetic, but it's been done before. A few fun moments in an otherwise forgettable film.
