Balagopalan (Mohanlal), a struggling office worker, takes a fancy to school teacher Anitha (Shobana) & to impress her parents, pawns his prized 8 cent of land to raise Rs. 10,000 for Anitha's litigation crazy dad (Balan K. Nair). After he wins his case & becomes rich though, Anitha's dad gives Balagopalan a cold shoulder & tries to marry Anitha off to advocate Ramakrishnan (Sreenivasan).
