Taiji ga mitsuryosuru toki

There's nice, stylish moments. But the main problem about this movie is the excess of corny, philosofical scenes. And the plot gets uninvolving by the second half of the film. Well, it's worth a watch, anyway.

japan after WWII, women gain rights and become visible in the public realm more and more. we witness the schizophrenia of a man who has problems about women in general. he blames them for being whores but also desperately longs for his mother. a very stylish movie but lacks the qualities of an elaborate screenplay, too much repetition...

A disturbing yet tedious movie made more disturbing and yet less tedious by its excellent score.

Stylish and visually great at times. Unfortunately it tries hard to present some philosophical ideas, but fails miserably.

Trust the Japanese to make a film about torture, boring.

Sort of a weird cross between the embodied speechifying of Godard and Pasolini and what could best be described as proto-torture porn. A squirm-fest admirable for its sadistic frankness, curio value and its violent, bloodsmeared buttrape of the boy-meets-girl genre.

A man, probably feeling himself resented by his mother, feels resentful about his own and women’s sexuality and takes his revenge with cruelty to a woman. More or less shows the man’s psychology and his ideas about women as a pure reaction out of resentment, but there isn’t the tension necessary for any possibility of real discussion, and it’s so far from being well-made that halfway through, this viewer started to wonder whether she should stop.
