But K.C. turns outs to be a beautiful woman who really knows her baseball. Second baseman Dennis Ryan promptly falls in love. Disjointed, and occasionally quite corny, but also often quite charming. I like that Sinatra plays a dweeb, but Kelly perhaps overcompensates with his masculine womanizer act.

Largely uneven, the plot is pretty uninteresting and unnaturally paced. I think this is mostly because Kelly directed all the musical numbers while Berkeley held the rest of the directorial duties--the end result is all the musical numbers are fantastic and greatly entertaining, but the rest of the movie is tepid and boring. No complaints on the parts of Sinatra or Kelly or their two female counterparts, but the only thing to take note of here are the great, GREAT songs.

Esther Williams is charming as the female owner of a baseball team, and Kelly and Sinatra are very good as the two errant baseball players and vaudeville performers.

It isn't On the Town, but it is a joy!

Looks like a double, but the naysayers keep flubbing the ball, so now it's an inside-the-park home run. Sinatra and Gene Kelly at their best, plus Esther Williams (!) as manager, love interest, and coach. Dirtier than you remember, with great songs and horrendous baseball. "You bad boy, I've got a good notion to take you on my knee." "You mean over your knee, don't you?" " I know what I mean."

Best film I've seen with a cat jumping on my balls. 34 minutes into the film that sucker landed...HARD. Needless to say, my legs were crossed the rest of the picture.

To me Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1949) was more fun than On the Town (1949), and I don't even like baseball!
