Can you teach an old dog new tricks? That's what happens here, as they throw William Powell in a noir style adventure. He was always great with detective flicks with a comic touch, but this feels a little too stripped down for what Powell was great at. His natural charm simply doesn't shine through in this more modern gritty take, though it's not totally without some Powell moments. More a interesting experiment than a great thriller.
