little bittersweet story with its heart in the right place. there's some pretty improbable stuff happening for the sake of plot advancement, and allison janney's arc is too underdeveloped to function properly. nevertheless i'm still pretty surprised at this sort of movie coming from netflix, so let's give some credit where it's due.

It takes some pretty wild leaps in logic on occasion to get to where it has to and instill some drama, but it's still not a bad movie. Ellen Page has done another good job here with her performance and boobs (see Into the Forest). It tackles bad mothering pretty hard and isn't subtle about it: that may turn some people off but I've said in other reviews that I'm okay with militant approaches so long as they're done well. Both subtle and blunt can work.

There is really nothing good about this movie. Totally uninteresting.

IMDb had Tallulah listed as a comedy, so I went in with very different expectations. I quickly came to the realisation that this was a drama, and not a light one at that. The film is decent, mainly thanks to solid performances from Page and Janney. It also takes an interesting narrative perspective with the victim. However the end of the film chooses an infuriatingly contrived resolution, which knocks the film down a few pegs.

Both Ellen Page and Alison Janney give good performances in this movie. The script is okay but the performances make this film worthwhile. Overall I would recommend this movie.

Stupid People Making Stupid Decisions: The Movie. I'm not sure how or why, but somehow this movie managed to get everything wrong from the first minute to the last. It creates wildly unlikable and unbelievably stupid characters, takes massive leaps of logic, and creates a dynamic between its two main characters that's cheesier than a four-cheese pizza. I'm sure this movie has its heart in the right place, but what's the use of a beating heart without properly working lungs, limbs and a brain?

Oh God, I identified so much with that Hollywood mom.... I wish I had a babysitter who'd relieve me of my burdens. Okay, might be a slight reaction. Either way, Tallulah (2016) was a alright drama even if it didn't hit jackpot.

There's a germ of a good story here, but a general lack of logic in the plotting and motivations of its characters (especially in how Page comes by the child) severely hamper its success. Repetitive digressions to Blanchard are disorienting and distract from Page and Janney's arc; we also know so little about Page that her apparent journey to redemption(?) is ultimately unmoving. Janney's reliably excellent (and very moving) performance makes the movie worth seeing.

Nothing incredible, just a cute little story that entertained me throughout.
