Mild disappointment. Usually Brits don't have so mediocre plots. Also only actor with true carisma in this movie is R. Allam. Above all I expected more British humour(R).

Swings wildly from charming to irritating.

Enjoyable romp in the glorious English countryside. Not to be taken too seriously, the characters are entertaining even if fairly shallow/cliched but you do end up rooting for good things to happen to some and bad things to happen to others!

What is this supposed to be? A comedy? Where are the laughs? A drama? Then why does nothing of any consequence happen for 110 minutes? It's not even an interesting character piece because everyone in the film is about as deep as a pygmy's paddling pool - the biggest surprise of all being that the title character is the shallowest one of the lot.

British comedy that looks a bit standard at a glance, but it keeps it interesting

I cannot speak to its adaptation from the graphic novel, but it is a brilliantly original spin on the source's source material (that being Thomas Hardy's Far From the Madding Crowd). Separate from any other medium, the film is itself a clever, beautiful, and silly rustic romp.

Thanks to the great deal of interesting, smart and insightful characters, I was always involved in some way. Even though the eponymous character left me with indifference, the other people make up for that. They're full of life, stay consistent and because they're all quite intelligent, they say things that are worth listening to. It's not an amazing film, and unless you like British humor a great deal, it's not necessarily worth your time, but I can't deny that I enjoyed my time spent with it.

Watching 2 hours of assorted (& sorted) romantic entanglements of a specific location's residents is not unlike watching a soap opera; the "take-away" can feel nil. Fortunately this is far better acted than the average soap & the script, based on a female-authored comic book, at least has some definite (mostly judgment-free) opinions about females & their life-long investment in (not so judgment-free) "bad boys".

Started interesting, but it meandered a bit too much in my taste

All fluff and no stuff. Stephen Frears seems to have peaked with The Queen. It's been downhill from there.

It's ludicrous and the plot relies too much on deux-ex-machina-driven twists, but the performances and the always reliable light tone provided by Frears make it enjoyable enough.

After a highly entertaining and clever first hour, the script just gets crazy. And not in a good way at all. They should have just focused on one story and not try to use as many material from the graphic novel as possible.

Sometimes charming but mostly annoying. A good cast squandered by some fairly boring material, no matter how well Roger Allam does "older pathetic creep" it feels out of place in a film this...cheery.

Tamara Drewe is an amusing RomCom between a man and his ancestral family home. While Arterton is decent as the titular character, it's actually Barden who steals every scene she's in and manages to drive the plot forward. On the whole the film is rather well cast, meaning each scene with the various actors is reasonably enjoyable. The film modernisation of Hardy's novel is also commendable. It's not ground-breaking, but it is charmingly fun.

There's nothing inherently bad about this except it's flat-out boring. Whoops I guess that is something inherently bad.

Good acting, boring film. Shallow main character, almost everyone was unlikeable with the exception of Beth, Glen and Jody. Comedy was repetitive and old, just a real dull feature.

This should be, but is sadly not, 'Midsomer Murders meets Dangerous Liaisons'

Quite charming, but never really convincing. It contains too few serious laughs, but I did smile all the way through, if you know that feeling. The strength was in the plot, apart from that childish nose-story, with some great characters surrounding the kind-of-cute Gemma Arterton who isn't a very interesting acress in my book. On top of all this, Tamara Drewe has a nice atmosphere all the way through, and Frears works the camera well to create a special author's paradise.

The title character has no character and is defined only by the men around her - an angry asshole, a lecherous creep and a jealous former lover.

Tamara Drewe is one of Stephen Frears' deadlies -- like his awful 2002 Liam -- where his proven skill with actors doesn't overcome a dumb concept.

Watchable

I don't remember liking it all that much.

What can you say? After watching this movie you realize you could have been doing anything else and the result would have been the same: forgettable. Then again there are much worse movies. It had a fair share of laughs but was utterly monotonous. Sort of reminded me of Bridget Jones' Diary. Another cute, ok movie, that you would forget in about 10 minutes after watching.

It was on TV and I didn't turn it off in time.

Cute, drags on, but still worth your time if you in for some of that feel-good stuff.

Yay! Fun! I'll be honest. I forgot alot about this since I've seen it, but here's what I remember -- I had fun while I was watching it, which seems to be a rarity for me these days. It's conventional in many ways, and that's fine for the type of movie that it is, but it has its moments when the characters and setting get to shine.

Impeccably cast and endlessly entertaining, this extremely pleasant blindsiding surprise follows a whimsical concatenation of consequences maneuvered by compellingly real characters whose audacious, sexy and irreverently funny saga constantly upends expectations with an unpredictable, anecdotal style and genuine novelty.
