Very intelligent parable, which works on any number of levels.

unnecessarily melodramatic use of music aside, the film's attempt at examining the politics of representation is admirable. the characters are rather underdeveloped considering that the film individualizes many structural problems, but it still manages to get its point across in a nuanced manner.

Some not particularly magical Latin American realism. I liked the plot but felt the juxtaposition of the conquistador movie scenes with poverty and riots was too jarring to carry the film's message effectively. The entire film-making plot felt like a gimmick. There were good characters to work with among the Bolivians but they had too little screen time. My overall impression: a chaotic disaster hiding the bones of a good film. High-contrast cinematography was also very off-putting.

The movie is simultaneously blunt and deep. So much swirls above the surface and below it, and that's where 'Even the Rain' becomes a fascinating film of multiple layers that go beyond what the film is about.

Well acted, and dealing with an interesting subject. However, characters end up playing a subservient role to on-the-nose symbolism.

The opening homage to La Dolce Vita had me sold. A little messy, a little cliche, but the film pulls no punches in criticizing the capitalist violence at the heart of our world today. I also liked the choice made to film the Cochabamba rioting in a sort of realistic, disorienting fashion.

Tambien La Lluvia is a compelling film that feels like a film within a film about a film, or something like that.

"Subtle the film is not, with Icíar Bollaín always working extra hard to make sure we don't miss the parallels between the different modes of oppression." - Andrew Schenker

"Though obvious, Bollain's morality tale dramatizes vital issues facing the global economy, forcing the audience to experience them on a human level."
