Tango

If you have seen Saura's "Carmen", you're going to experience déjä vu a LOT during this. The structure of the two movies is virtually the same: the plot of the show being created reflects the framing plot, and they serve as commentary on each other. Saura almost pulls it off in "Carmen"; he's less successful here. But it holds your attention effortlessly, with lots of great music and dance along the way. And it's easy to see why Miguel Ángel Solá has hot younger women throwing themselves at him.

Saura blends reality and fantasy again. Definite shades of 8 1/2 here, with a little bit All That Jazz, although I'm not sure if any of it is Saura speaking autobiographically. He is a master at filming dance, though, and he captures all the graceful physicality in exciting ways. And with Storaro on hand, the movie explodes with vivid colors and dazzling lights. Not all of it is great but it's mostly very captivating and intriguing. Great dance, great music.

Tango estreava há 25 anos no Festival de Toronto. Por incrível Saura conseguiu fazer pela Argentina o mesmo que já fizera pela cultura espanhola nos anos 80. Fazendo uso das luzes e cores numa fotografia deslumbrante do Storaro, Saura conta a história da Argentina e do Tango através de protagonistas que só parecem banais na superfície.
