I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Saves too much of the giant spider for the end without adequately parsing out the attacks over the length of the movie. Still the general unraveling of the rest of the plot is comparatively logical and well done. With few exceptions the special effects are quite convincing and is one of the better examples. Despite all that it's really not much fun and not even Clint Eastwood riding in to save the day can rescue it.

The best of the big spider movies. Jack Arnold knows how to make the most of a jumbo arachnid--show her in part, one feeler at a time, show her at dusk and at darkness, and then, in her war with the air force, pull out all the stops. Leo G. Carroll gives this a classy touch as the kindly mad scientist, and Mara Corday is gorgeous in those tailored white suits (even if they do seem unlikely desert-wear). John Agar, though, doesn't seem nearly smart enough to be a doctor.

Suffers from a particularly awkward plot, but still well-directed and entertaining.

Fun monster movie is far from a classic, but its faults largely lie in its truncated length - it feels like it's just about to get going when it abruptly stops and fades out. The premise itself is intelligently developed and explored, and the excellent (and convincing) special effects give it a much needed shot of conviction; Carroll is also fine underplaying his "mad scientist" archetype. A definite cut above the standard C-grade horror entry. Nice to see Eastwood swoop in and save the day!

Cheesy and the build up is overlong, but it does what it sets out to do well enough.

Finally got to this 50s sci-fi/monster movie (a genre I love)! It's everything you'd want it to be.

Much lamer than I remember it being when I saw it on "Creature Features" in elementary school. The FX are pretty damn decent for 1955. However, all the things that are needed to make a movie a real movie -- acting, direction, writing, etc. -- range here from "standard" to "pretty piss-poor". After a while, you just twiddle your thumbs waiting for Mr. Superbug to show up again. Uses the "jump scare" and "the car won't start" cliches... and may, in fact, have started them

Goofy 1950s giant animal fun that has some fears about atomic energy but not enough to distract the audience from the animal rampage.

Quite boring really and not enough of the giant spider. Wasn't really exciting enough, even the end was lacklustre. Has that old 50's sci-fi in a small town in the middle of nowhere, USA that I love though so that saves it a little bit. Average at best.

50's man messing with nature thriller. Not as good as Them, but still worth watching. Clint Eastwood literately drops a bomb in this one.

Not the worst King Kong rip off I've ever seen, but by no means a classic, even from a B-movie point of view.
