I quite liked Johnny Weissmuller's final outing as Tarzan. From the cliff diving to the fight scenes, Tarzan and the Mermaids (1948) delivered more than enough escapism for me to be satisfied. A worthy graduation for being Tarzan for 12 movies and 16 years.

It's the last Weissmuller Tarzan movie, luckily he puts on a shirt for Jungle Jim. The Tarzan series got tired long before this, so good riddance. Look to the Barker movies after you've seen one or two Weissmullers, unless you're a staunch completionist.

Though this story has been brought out of African jungles to the fantasy island, Hollywoodian aboriginals (in Tarzan movies I've been reviewing) look more like Indian born or from Hawaii... Especially Benji. Actually here the Forbidden Island is representing kind of Hawaii or Inka culture and the white skinned people are okay, I guess.
