Teacher of the Year

A light-hearted high school comedy? A witty, meta mockumentary for the 21st century? A portrayal of the hardships quality teachers must face from a society that expects so much from from them, but in turn gives back so little? How about a halfassed attempt at all 3. A few laughs, a few smiles, and a few feelings of guilt that are wrapped in an underwhelming experience destined to be filed somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind right next to that other movie starring that guy about that thing.

nice try but sometimes it doesn't know if it is a comedy or an inspiring movie, and the hesitation falls flat

What is this supposed to be? The central story is a weird mix of mundane drama confusingly presented in the mockumentary form. But then the supporting characters are from an entirely different movie, one that aims to be a standard improv-ish silly mockumentary. The combination just doesn't work, unfortunately.

It's weird. It's not what you'd expect to see, and not all of it is very good. The comedy doesn't hit often (if at all), and the supporting cast who tried to make it hit, weren't good. However, some of the more dramatic parts were touching, as well as the actors delivering the lines. It's not good and it's not something to remember, but it is something that you can sit through and maybe enjoy.
