Teen Witch

Take "Teen Witch" at face value and it won't really disappoint you. It's clearly a movie riding on the coat tails of "Teen Wolf", but aimed straight at the cranium of the little sisters of the boys who loved the "Teen Wolf". There's not much out there that speaks to Hollywood producers trying to make something hip to boost revenue like a white teenage girl in 1989 engaging in a random rap battle so wooden, she was beginning to sprout branches. All told, I've seen far worse.

IM HAWT & UR NOT!! Top that suckaaaaa! This movie will always be remembered for the outrageously "funky" (awkward) rap battle and tons of 80s-riffic pop songs. There are so many tunes it's practically a musical. It's one of those things that's best to watch with a group of people and play a drinking game while poking fun at it. Take a shot every time there's a weirdly-placed music number or a close-up on Louise's legs! Not a classic, but gets points for dumb fun and sexy redhead Robyn Lively.

Seriously, I'm not gonna lie, I saw a clip of the infamously glorious "Top That!" rap scene, and instantly I rushed off to watch the rest of this majestic 80's gem. While the rest of the movie may not have been able to maintain that peak level of awesomeness, overall it still makes for a fun coming-of-age/teen-wish-fulfillment/fantasy/comedy. However, the film's conclusion is pretty underwhelming, but despite the paper thin plot, the movie's collection of quirks and charms make it worth a watch.

Where has this film been all my life? I like it but it's got a terrible plot. It's popcorn fantasy for teenage girls since there's no moral of the story and Louise just gets everything so wants without consequence. The magic is terrifying for consent. I love watching it for the wardrobe and to make fun of the period. Fav scene: TOP THAT.

Well, it's certainly not an astonishing display of direction but it's a comedy so as long as it's funny it's worth seeing. Is it funny? Well, sometimes. The rap /other musical scenes and a couple other scenes are funny or pretty hilarious but the jokes are too far away from each other. I don't really buy into whatever drama is in this movie and as a coming of age tale it doesn't work. The acting fairly horrible but it makes the funny parts funnier.

This movie is AMAZING. I feel like the script actually *was* written by a sixteen-year-old girl - one who's bright, who may actually be a very good writer one day, but who does not yet fundamentally realize how stories work. She's watched a lot of teen movies and read a lot of romance novels, and she's absorbed bits and pieces of these, but she doesn't actually understand why these events are happening in the story, or what they can be used for other than wish fulfillment.

I've never seen a teen comedy that plays sex slavery and currency counterfeiting for laughs before. I feel that's an untapped market.

Teen Witch isn't a real a movie, it's 90 minutes of consequence free, teen girl wish fulfillment (pun unintended). Though my teenage self doesn't even relate to Louise (or her desire to be the 2nd coming of Jesus), you don't have to identify with her to enjoy it. The universe here is so out of touch that it almost feels like it was meant as a parody of 80's teen movies. And it's this strangeness keeps things entertaining. A perfect choice for bad movie night.

"Look how funky he is." Masterpiece.

I started streaming this movie off Netflix while slightly inebriated expecting it be a so bad it's good candidate and I'll be damned if it wasn't just plain good. Genuine laughs they were trying to get and honestly might be one of my favorite teenager movies set in the 80s (admittedly I think the majority of them are overrated). Tom Cruise look-a-like guy Fonzie's a coke vending machine and wears a bolo tie for Christ's sake. THIS MOVIE IS BRILLIANT!

A brilliant deconstruction of the Cinderella mythos hidden behind ridiculously cheesy musical numbers and accidental period-piece wardrobe. Much like Cinderella, a bullied girl uses supernatural means to transform how she is perceived by others around her in order to win the man of her dreams. However, once she begins to question the ethos of using supernatural means to get what she wants, Teen Witch takes a different route and delves into autonomy, fame, morality, and hidden agendas.

One of the most extreme cases of wish fulfillment. There's all of one consequence, which isn't even really acknowledged by the ending. Recommend the viewer is either drunk or high during the viewing.

It had a few moments, but mostly was a dud of a movie.

I don't think I've seen a movie this stupid before in my life. I can't say I didn't enjoy it and wasn't entertained though. It's just so rife with 80's pop style and oozing with bad direction, it's hard to call good in any respect. If you want to see what I mean go to YouTube and google "Top That" and "Teen Witch" and you'll see. It's pretty amazing.

I'm ashamed to admit I saw this in the theaters. I guess we weren't that discriminating in the 80s...

Oh, it's the chick from Karate Kid 3, in her own movie! Joy!

While Teen Witch has not aged very well, that only adds to its one of a kind charm.

Teen Witch was very 80's and that's really all I wanted from this movie. It isn't very good but parts of it were entertaining but a lot of it was a mess. Robyn Lively was cute. She played the standard "hot girl who they try to make look not hot but in the end she's hot" character that was popular in teen movies in the 80's. There was romance and hijinks abound so that was fun. The ending was an utter mess. I didn't really get the whole prom scene and it ended up souring me on the movie.

I read this as more of a satire in the vein of Better Off Dead. Seems a lot of people thought it was just a brainless teen comedy.
