Beautiful imagery, but the voice over made me want to run screaming from the the theatre. Yes, narrator, we see that he is moving his hand. Shut. Up.

The storytelling is a bit too reliant on narration but it's still a beautiful film, both visually and as a chronicle of life.

A long, sometimes plodding story about a modern day culture still living much like our ancient ancestors. The theme revolves around the telling of ancient stories. Some are religious superstitions and some are valuable life lessons. The main story turns out to be an unusual form of "be careful what you wish for" told over the course of a long hunting trip involving the making of 10 canoes. Worth watching, but sometimes just a little tedious. Abrupt but funny ending.

Bit of Aboriginal story telling with the cinematography raising the film towards something engaging. Interesting how the same themes and archetypes crop up across all culture's legends despite however insulated they may be.

"Ten Canoes is more homily than film, an educational exaltation of Australia's Aboriginal past." - Ed Gonzalez

Hilarious in a unique and innocent way. The cinematography is beautiful. It's a different kind of film that is rarely made. Like a Herzog film, it blurs the distinction between fiction and documentary.
