Shintaro Katsu stars as real life Edo period assassin Izo Okada in this tense and dramatic biopic by Hideo Gosha. Katsu gives the strongest and most versatile acting performance of his life as the ragged samurai who is honed into a ruthless killer by his superiors before being inevitably betrayed. Featuring excellent direction, arresting visual composition and some fantastic bloody swordplay, this is an all time classic samurai film.

Ended quite differently than I thought it would. Overall a decent samurai film. I originally wanted to watch my first Yukio Mishima film, picked the wrong one, he's only in it for 5 minutes. Pleasant surprise seeing both Tatsuya Nakadai and Shintarô Katsu together.
