Aliens rebuild Mechagodzilla with the help of a demented scientist who has discovered a creature called Titanosaurus, which they intend to team up to defeat Godzilla. This was the last Godzilla movie made until 1985. (imdb)

While it features both a monstrous water-kangaroo and a lady cyborg whose mecha-insides are 40% blinking lights, the sense of campy fun was missing from this entry. So while it at least stands out for being relatively serious, it didn't make for a hugely entertaining watch. There's a few cool shots though, my favorite being the menacing view of MechaGZ in the distance, turned towards the viewer as dark smoke rises behind him and blowing up the street in front of him/us. Metal.

Terror-able. Every time I worry because I haven't seen that many Godzilla movies, I watch one and remember that if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all.

Godzilla is pissed off, Titanosaurus is the epitome of a pathetic monster, and Mechagodzilla is actually pretty terrifying. The human element is boring, but the fight scenes are absolutely insane.

I preferred the first MechaG movie. The non-monster bits in this were edgy and dark, but they weren't very good. They were also a little boring, and not ridiculous enough to be "so bad it's good!"

With this the Showa era of the Godzilla franchise came to an end. Unfortunately I can't say they went out on a high note, but neither is it among the worst ones. The biggest problem is that Honda tries to play the human plot all serious, there is even some effort to put some real emotions into it with a tragic love story, but doesn't realize the whole premise is pure camp. The fight scenes are decent enough, cause Mechagodzilla is still a badass opponent.

Way, WAY overlong with too much farting around and too few monsters fighting each other.

One couldn't ask for a better director to close out the Shōwa era than Ishirō Honda. He gives the human story a dramatic weight that the series had lacked for quite a long time, plus he integrates that story into the kaiju battles well. (Ifukube also returns with a wonderfully plangent score.) Honda doesn't entirely save the series from its long-building monotony, but he certainly does more than anyone else could have to give Godzilla's cheesier days their appropriate swan song.

Quite a slog. Lots of recycled footage and Godzilla is not around much. Decent brawl at the end though.

This has 2 legitimately tragic figures (kind of). In a Godzilla movie that feels like a real accomplishment. One of my favorite human plots in a showa era Godzilla. Also I like Titanosaurus's fighting style and stompy dance. Additional note: the only Godzilla movie with a boob in it (kind of).

I'm a sucker for Godzilla movies, even when they are are as recycled and plodding as this one.

A good solid effort; Mecha is just a cool idea. It's really one of the stronger flicks.

Godzilla just does not want any more crap from these guys in this movie. He is kicking ass and taking names and though it takes a while to get to it, it is great. Also, the alien plotting is actually kinda cool and I want one of their rockin' helmets.

One of the darkest early Godzilla films thanks in part to Ifukube's menacing score. Bonus points to this one for including a mad scientist, a cyborg femme-fatale, a dinosaur (Titanosaurus) and even more carnage in the heart of Tokyo!
