Tetris suffers from inserting movie bullshit to hype up the action, making it challenging to distinguish between reality and fiction. The film's creators seem insecure about the real story's appeal, resulting in a climax so absurd it insults the audience's intelligence. The truth is more than enough, and the movie should have trusted the real events to tell an engaging story.

I use to play Tetris a lot on the toilet, you'll never guess where I'm writing this. Fun breezy movie. Another 2023 movie going all out with I Need a Hero.

A great deal of it is obviously nonsense to make things more digestible for an audience (Howard Lincoln in a car chase in Moscow lmao ok), but underneath that is a reasonably fun little boardroom thriller about the wheeling and dealing behind software rights. Definitely a lot of Social Network DNA (even the score feels inspired by Reznor’s in that film)… albeit without the perhaps most key detail of Sorkin’s scripting. But fairly basic dialogue aside the story is still engaging.

Pretty fun movie about the history of Tetris. Definitely feels like an exaggerated movie version of whatever may have happened in real life, but that's okay.

I know this got exaggerated to be more entertaining, and I know that this is ignorance of the Tetris story on my part, but when they announced a Tetris movie I thought "huh?" And this ended up being good. It's a mostly competent spy thriller, basically, with good performances and a cool soundtrack. But it also was too long for what it was. The deception lost its impact at a certain point and I just waited for the movie to end.

Surprisingly good. The underdog story really gets you invested. If you expect talking animatronic blocks, this is not it, and that is what makes it awesome!

Probably the events have been simplified but I loved this. Once you get into the flow of the story it's so much fun.

The soundtrack for this absolutely rips and it will be what I remember. The rest of it is solid. It is essentially a two-hour tale of "get this paper to this guy, fast!"

Although there’s some nostalgia, game references and unique pixel art animation dotted around in the movie, the story of Tetris is a bit dull and ridiculous on screen here. It certainly didn’t warrant two hours to tell it all.

Superb movie. The villains were the ideal amount of villainous and the good guys had heart and multi-dimensions and you could easily cheer for them. The story is interesting and the embellishments really pushed the movie to perfection. The soundtrack complimented everything well and the pixel animations throughout were the proverbial cherry on the cake. I'm not giving it a 100 only because I probably wouldn't watch it a second time to classify as a "favorite", but it's darn close.

Surprisingly sharp, especially once it gets past a shaky, exposition-heavy start and effectively employs the tropes of Cold War espionage thrillers. Even ARGO would blush at the dramatic and historical liberties here, but TETRIS also takes seriously it message about the ways greed and competition test one's priorities in life.

The movie's unique blend of genres, captivating story, and strong lead performance make it a highly enjoyable watch. Although some of the stylistic choices fall short, the film's many strengths more than make up for these minor missteps. "Tetris" is an entertaining and engaging film that will leave audiences with a new appreciation for the classic game.

You can tell they needed a hook to try and make this story sexier and they ended up with some sort of iron curtain spy thriller. Loaded with clichés and tropes, and starts really badly. Luckily Taron Egerton is great as ever. There's some nice pixel graphics stuff. It's alright.

I actually really enjoyed the stylistic choices of this movie, with the graphics and especially Tetris-y soundtrack. Taron Egerton is fantastic and I want to see more big roles from him. It's a fine movie, but I felt it's a little too dramatized and focused on the spy thriller genre.

Yes, it's filled with overblown spy mellodrama to make it easier to digest for the casual crowd, but you can tell a lot of heart and soul went into making this and it's a damn fine film. Who knew Tetris could be so interesting?

Despite its flaws, "Tetris" is a fascinating exploration of a little-known chapter in video game history. It offers a unique perspective on the cutthroat world of corporate maneuvering, framed through the lens of a simple, yet globally beloved game. While it may not be to everyone's taste, for those interested in the history of video games or corporate dramas, it offers an engaging and insightful viewing experience.

A bit exaggerated plotline to make the actual lawsuit events enjoyable for everyone but tbh as someone who's favourite game is Tetris, even I would be bored watching multiple court scenes over a game. So I admire their choice about it. So for people like me this is a must-watch, otherwise you can watch it, have fun for 2 hours then forget about it.

Pour l'originalité du montage. J'ai vraiment du mal à prendre Taron Egerton au sérieux. Un peu comme si Tom Holland jouait Bill Gates. Je doute également des rebondissement faciles. Au moins un biopic qui ne se termine pas mal.

Egerton is yet to give a bad performance in his life and this film is no exception. The film itself takes a bit to get going but once it does, it's a gripping thrill ride... Up until the last five minutes before the epilogue where I was suddenly expected to like a character who up until that point had been completely odious, which wouldn't be so bad, except the swerve didn't serve any narrative reason anyway. By itself that moment took ten points off my rating; still tho, worth watching.

Hmm. I didn't see any trailers before going into this, so I really was expecting something a lot more.. well, boring. I'm kind of disappointed that so much of it was obviously exaggerated for a good story, but dang it's a good story. Hmph. *crosses arms* Anyways. There's deeper mumbo jumbo, but if you just want it to be a couple hours of face-value entertainment, surprise! Now it is. No regrets about watching this one.

The story of Tetris goes hard to edges of ludicrous and the movie dives deep into the audacity, but the great performances and the break neck speed make it a very entertaining ride. Not without its flaws, but overall highly recommended. Better than an adaptation of the gameplay would have been.

Storia interessantissima e narrazione pop che si addice al tema però si perde nella confusione dei diversi accadimenti. Avrei preferito sorvolare su alcune cose per spiegare meglio l'intreccio di politica internazionale che sta al centro della storia.

Self-aware enough to mythologize the heroes and villains in a way that doesn’t feel like it’s trying to trick audiences into believing a false history. The energy is fairly boundless after hurtling over a very awkward opening and Egerton’s uncanny DiCaprio channeling works for this particular character. It lacks enough interpersonal charm and cinematic flourish to really excel, but it’s a solid corporate biopic with a fun score and kinda janky visuals.

I'm not sure how historically accurate this is (I'm going to take a punt on 'not very'), but it's this absurdity that makes this a great deal of fun.

A mostly enjoyable nostalgic trip with excellent production values. Egerton is great as is the soundtrack, but it's clear they had a tricky time deciding what to dramatize and/or straight up fabricate for excitement. This leads to feeling like a lot of the story is bs and hard to discern fiction from fact (until looking it up afterwards). Still a mostly enjoyable piece. 7.3

I'm kind of impressed that they managed to drum up this much drama and tension around the origins of Tetris. It's well-made and the intro which sets up the characters is really cool. I felt like the movie sort of lost steam the longer it went on and kind of became a dollar store version of Argo. Egerton is very watchable and energetic in the lead role, but a lot of the supporting cast is pretty forgettable and 2-dimensional.

Never thought a biography about the rights of Tetris would be so tense and gripping, but it is (car chase aside, which is fun, but really out of place). It’s got a good cast, fun editing style, and manages to be unique compared to most recent biographical films. Also pretty crazy to learn how consistently awful the Maxwell family is. Tonal inconsistencies aside, I thought this was great.

It's a striking mashup of opposite ideas, the frivolous fun of the video game Tetris going up against the tail end of Soviet Russia. I imagine historical accuracy is not this movie's strong suit, but I almost never worry about stuff like that. Its strong suit is dropping an ordinary man, who is trying to keep his business and family afloat, into cold war Russia, and all of the secret police and espionage that goes with it.

Tetris is a fantastical telling of the story of the origins of Tetris. It's relatively entertaining, though I think they could have done without the fictional action movie/thriller cliches, which at the end get so ludicrous that it's unsurprising that they are totally made up. At first the tone feels a bit annoying but it gets less so as it moves along.
