If it wasn't for Dick Powell's enigmatic charisma and showmanship every time he went "on stage", plus the ever gorgeous and serene Ann Dvorak, this would have been rubbish. But those two factors alone (with drunk hillbilly Raymond Walburn admittedly being very funny too) elevate this to a very enjoyable watch.

Singer Dick Powell enters the election! First as part of the campaign show, then as the main attraction - the candidate himself. A fun movie full of songs and laughs. Almost too much music getting a little in the way of a story. But sweet music it was. Even the famous Paul Whiteman made a cameo! One of the main reasons to watch this movie is to experience famous radio star Fred Allen in his first feature film. But of course the movie belongs to Powell. Charming and full of shining personality!
